Gonna be an ugly battle over team ownership control

No it won't. Rita and Co. NEVER had ownership shares, and the league already approved the plan for Gayle to take over once he passed.

I'm just sad we didn't get to host or win another SB with the old coot still around.

Edit:

et's hope the legal battles delay long enough to try to get us a SB win this season.

The only legal battle left going on was him trying to take NON-ownership shares out of the trusts for something of equal value.

That group has no more legal maneuvering to be able to get back into the picture.

The ONLY thing they can do is collect a check off of the teams.

We'll do the Benson Boogey for you this season.

Thanks for everything you did for the city.

I still can't watch that play without my stomach turning. RIP, even though he did try to move the Saints from New Orleans.

So death absolves him of trying to take the Saints away from a hurricane ravaged city?

For the life of me I can't find a gif of him celebrating the last pass attempt by Manning in the super bowl.

Sucks

He’s a testament that people can change. He absolutely deserved all the criticism in the world for being a shitbag many years ago. But god damnit he turned into a hell of a guy. His philanthropy around New Orleans was significant and that’s how he should and will be remembered. RIP.

He had a rough history with the Saints. He was brought in to keep the team in NOLA, and Tagliabue and the Texans owner kept them here after Katrina. Tom had to be saved from himself in that situation. It marred his tenure as owner but the rebirth both he and the team underwent with the hiring of Payton is quite possibly one of the best stories in the History of Sport.

I'm glad it happened on his watch...and I know that nobody enjoyed the '09 season more than he did. He brought a world championship to the Saints after a long journey in the wilderness. For that, he should be heralded.

God speed, Mr. Benson...

He was a businessman. He had no idea what kind of a city he’d be bringing his franchise back to.
