This board is fawning for Winston, meanwhile who started this year?

It's strange how so many here just know that Winston is the future, yet when Brees was out it was Taysom that ran this offense. That plus Paeyton stating in 2019 that Taysom reminds him of Steve Young should be all you need to know in order to recognize that he is the future starter.

Now I'm not saying that Paeyton isn't trying to find a different option, but the data does not support this board's love affair.

And if he watched the games Taysom started and still thinks this he's gone retarded

the data doesn't support Taysom being a good QB either

Starting Hill now is a way for Payton and the Saints to figure out if Hill can be Brees’ eventual successor. One source with “deep knowledge of Payton's thinking” told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that "Sean just wants to know" whether Hill has what it takes to be the Saints’ next franchise quarterback

It’s really not that difficult. Hill was in the offense for three seasons, and CSP needed to see what he had with him. Winston has started 70 NFL games and 9 against the Saints, his skills aren’t an unknown

Hill didn’t play well and has 1 year left on his deal. His play and contract does not support him being the future either.

Taysom Hill 2020 Stats

Passing
94/134 Completions 72.7%
93.7 RTG
4TDs
2 INTs
3 Fumbles

Running
87 Attempts
457 Yards
5.3 YPG
11 TDs
8 Fumbles

If he (1) cleans up his fumbles, (2) is allowed to run more via proper game plan according to his talents and (3) not feel forced to stay in the pocket... then give him this year to prove himself and if he sucks move on. Evaluate his play week to week and move to Winston if not. But then again, whoever wins the eye of Payton this offseason in practice will start. Im sure they both will be given equal opportunity.

People on this board are spoiled with 78% dink and dump completion football...so they will cry like crazy any time taysom makes a mistake regardless of ability. Taysom is a risk with his fumbles, but like I said if he cleans that up I think his ceiling is high.

Fumbles are an issue, and that can possibly be fixed.

INTs? He threw 2 in 4 games. That averages to 8 over a season. By that standard, you probably don't want to see Winston touching McCoy's taint.

The thing is that this board thought coming into this season that Tay was not the backup nor the future at the position. Then Brees goes down, and Pay proves everyone wrong. Tay runs this team while Crabs massages his feet on the sidelines. Tay has some great moments mixed in with some bad ones, which is to be expected of a development project getting his first few starts.

Somehow though this board thinks Crabs is the future even though there isn't a shred of evidence pointing to that. Pay has told us who he thinks Tay compares to and even gave him the keys. At what point do yall start paying attention to what Pay does rather than what you think he should be doing and claiming that's what he will do?

Taysom can’t throw with anticipation. It’s as simple as that.

maybe not, but that's not the point. I'm not here to proclaim him the next franchise QB. I'm here to point out the love affair with Winston has no data to support it. This board keeps acting as if Payton has designated Winston as the future, yet there is nothing to indicate this outside of this board's desires.

This year and last year, the team could play very conservatively because of the defense.

With the cap hits, we don't know what next year will look like, so we may have to return to aggressive offense again to have success.

I mean there's plenty of data that supports Jameis as a good passer in this league

there's very little that supports a 30+ year old suddenly developing the skills he's lacking and becoming a quality starting QB

You got hill under contract already for next year. If we go out and lock up a guy like Winston while being in cap hell, it’ll speak to what CSP thinks about these guys

And nobody is really fawning over Winston, we just don’t really have many options assuming Brees is retired.

It's an old reference. A few years back there were some spelling nazis who would get worked up on here when someone would spell it Peyton. Some of us started typing it as Paeyton to troll them, and I guess it stuck with me.

Same thing with the Tay and Pay. I find the nicknames to get a bit carried away, so it's just an admittedly poor troll job by me.

This was the perfect year for Taysom to prove himself. Winston learning the system for a year, Brees out for a bit. It was a test and I'm sure it'll be a Winston/Taysom combination all next season regardless.

And yet Payton still keeps saying that there will be competition for the QB spot.

I would think if Hill has that locked up he wouldnt keep doing that.

Payton promised Hill an opportunity and he gave him one. Nothing was promised past this last year for Hill

Well, I have already recognized the Saints will go 7-10 with Taysom as the starter in the 17-game 2021 season.

Recognize, or did you mean, accept? Cuz I don't think that's acceptable.

This is correct. It's also a big IF. We have no idea what Payton is thinking despite what Rapaport says (how often has he been wrong? I've lost count). Just like last off season, we have people proclaiming things they know nothing about. One side kept saying Taysom would be a star and is the future, and the other side kept saying he sucked without any game tape to support it. Both were wrong. Neither knew Payton's plans. This season gave us some data though to say he does see Taysom at least as the immediate future; however, that does not mean he's the franchise.

And yes, all of that could change. Until we see that the Saints are trying to sign Winston, the only thing we have to go on is that Payton compares him to Steve Young and that he started in place of Brees rather than Winston. So all of these threads about Winston and the endless posts are nothing more than wasted gas.
