The Vikings are looking for a starting center. Should we call about Ruiz?

They just used a 1st on Garret Bradbury in 2019 but he’s apparently been awful in pass protection and has very short arms. Ruiz is a natural center but he will never overtake McCoy for the Saints and Ruiz could be a much better player at his natural position. With James Hurst looking like the starting LT we could possibly put Trevor Penning, Nick Martin or Calvin Throckmorton at RG while maybe getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick plus Ruiz’s salary off the books. I think it is at least worth making a call to Minnesota.

If I were the Vikings...I'd trade for Nick Martin. Cheap as hell & experienced.

I love having Martin as our backup center.

I think he's been playing some OG in training camp

The Nick Martin signing will be one of the best unheralded signings this year. If they offered good enough draft capital I’d trade him but he’s very valuable as our backup center that you know can plug and play and not really miss a beat. I think Penning could be a good starting guard day one with his nasty attitude and strength. Playing next to McCoy and Ramcyzk would help him too. It would be very interesting to see what the Saints would do if any of the interior 3 OL guys got hurt who would be first off the bench between Martin, Penning and Throckmorton. I think the team wants to keep Landon Young as Ramcyzk’s primary backup at RT.

We should definitely contact them about unloading Ruiz. He does not fit. It was a bad pick and he has not played remotely close to a 1st rounder. Please get something for him while we can. He is an underachiever.

Neither would I. Our entire line is rarely all healthy at the same time.

I think these are our top 9 guys...as of right now
OC - McCoy, Nick Martin

OG - Peat, Ruiz, Throckmorton

OT - Ramczyk, Hurst, Penning, Landon Young

Hopefully, the coaches play the best 5 guys. CSP was known for rolling with Peat...even when was banged up & playing poorly. I want the best 5 on the field...even if it means benching Peat or Ruiz.

I doubt Ramczyk, Hurst, or McCoy will give us a legit reason to want them replaced.

At this point...I'd be surprised if anyone is willing to give up a 2nd or 3rd for him.

A desperate team might give us a 4th at best imo. I'd take a 4th.

Ruiz hasn't been good at all, but I don't think a 5th would even be worth it for us. I'd rather just keep him & pray that it finally clicks for him than take a 5th.

Very true, but isn’t the move to plug Hurst into RG if/when Penning catches up? If I recall Hurst has played almost everywhere along the line.

Love these scenarios, this just means that this is the deepest online the Saints have had in some time. Was not even aware that they has signed Martin. Love that. Guess I need to follow GMoney better!

If anybody makes a decent offer for Ruiz, I’d jump on it. I think Throckmorton is going to beat him out anyway!
