The Saints can’t let Granderson hit free agency.

They have to do whatever it takes to get him an extension at some point this season. He’s a complete player now that not only is a fierce pass rusher and disruptor but he has put on 15-20 lbs of solid muscle from when he was a rookie and he can hold his own in run support. We let Trey Hendrickson walk like idiots, they can’t make that mistake twice.

We don't really have many left that we can restructure and kick down the road ... and we're $55 million over for next year
Granderson, Shaheed, and MT13 are the only significant FAs, but you're losing alot of depth if that's all you bring back

I’d be willing to bet you didn’t want to keep Hendrickson at the time. That is, 98% of this board didn’t want to re-sign him and thought he was a flash in the pan

Pass Rushers , QB and LT are the three positions in football that are the hardest to find so when you draft and develop a good one who is still young and just coming into his prime you make some tough choices with the roster but you don’t lose him.

They let him walk because he was expensive. That honestly was the only reason. The dude was starting and killing it for us.

Henrickson was a pass rush specialist. Rarely played against the run. We let him go because staff had to keep Davenport who was then and confirmed later that he was always a bust

And Trey was too expensive. But yeah they did hope Davenport would replace that production.
