The monkeywrench in tanking next season: The NFC South doesn't have a single franchise QB

The South absolutely stinks. Obviously things could change and Panthers or Bucs could get a QB, but their rosters still aren't particularly good. Ridder could be something but it doesn't seem so currently.

And I'm not even sure the Saints should bother trying to get a QB as long as Allen is the HC.

The division is so bad we might win several games just because of that

This occurred to me this morning, too. I think its safe to say that had Mark Ingram not decided to just duck for the sidelines, it's a really good possibility that we beat Tampa and actually show up for Carolina with a legit chance at winning this horrible division. I think we have to make a play at Derek Carr and hope the Bucs are saddled with trying to re-sign Jamies Winston. I don't know. I'm in the bush, man, outside the perimeter. I'm on ambush, and my ammo's low...Thank God it's almost baseball season.

The caveat to that is relative to cap space currently

ATL ~$56Mill under
Car ~ $9Mill Over
NOR ~$57Mill Over
TB ~$55Mill Over

Atl's and Car's rosters will not look this bad after FA and the draft.

NOR and TB have painful work to do.

The problem with this is that you have to cripple the cap for the next several years just to sign him. You would then need to continue kicking the can as long as he is here because of the investment in him. Part of the danger for kicking the can down the road is you completely wipe out your depth; and this is the reason why injuries for the Saints have such a drastic effect compared to other teams.

FYI, $30M a year puts him around the 10th highest paid in 2023. This also doesn't account for the contract Lamar, Burrow (if extended this offseason), and Garoppolo are expected to demand. IMO, Saints cannot afford to get into that type of bidding war until they start addressing the cap and roster depth.

Ugh… good point. We’ll probably win 3 or 4 division games just by dumb luck

Goodell lets the Saints win just enough to barely miss out on the division title and playoff spot and thereby screw the teams draft position.

One thing everyone is missing. The only QB saints could get is someone who is out on every other opportunity in the NFL to come in and work with one WR, a suspended RB and DA as head coach

Saints actually have 2 good wrs, hopefully a really good receiving te back, and a pretty good oline when healthy. Definitely need another wr and power back
