Pretty big assumption there. Don't agree with this at all

also, even though I was pissed about it yesterday,
I'm pumped drew's TD streak continues

Harder to relay plays from box to Carmichael to brees. Box can not have direct contact with player on field.
then he needs to be on the field. simple as that.
these games are priceless and he is a top 3 playcaller in the NFL. insane to not find a way to make this work - ESPECIALLY for home games.
Payton calling our plays is arguably as big a deal as having Drew Brees running our offense. To not find a way to make that work is retarded.

correct me if I am wrong, but dont most playcallers sit in the box anyway?
Posted on 10/31/11 at 1:48 pm to diat150
There seems to be some disconnect about that.
If it's possible to do it from the box then fine (but I don't see why Payton hasn't been doing it if that's the case).
If it's not possible to do it from the box than Payton needs to swallow his pride and be willing to look dorky calling plays from the sideline in an elevated wheelchair from behind the bench, or whatever setup the NFL will allow.
Hell, the Superdome has furniture and couches situated in a corner of the field for fans. Buy Payton a fricking seat on an Ashley's couch in the corner of the field and have him call plays from there.
It really doesn't matter how, but we need our top 3 playcaller doing his job - especially in a crucial home game against Tampa Bay.

It's a safety issue. Not a pride issue

AIH, you think we lost cause Payton was in the press box?
Posted on 10/31/11 at 1:50 pm to LSUZombie
Jesus H. Christ. It's not a safety issue. He can be BEHIND the fricking metal bench if need be.
He can have the 3rd string D-linemen surrounding him if need be.

We lost at Tampa because he wasn't calling the plays. Id argue that we lost at StL because he wasn't calling the plays.
Whether he's in the box is not important to me (I understand my post yesterday was poor in this regard - I thought he HAD to be on the field to call plays. There is still some confusion about that). Him calling plays is all I care about.

He tried sitting on the bench in Tampa. It didn't work.
He can't see the field when sitting down. Sorry man, Payton is the least of our worries. He just got dealt a bad hand and suffered a terrible injury
Posted on 10/31/11 at 1:54 pm to AlejandroInHouston
and you dont see, how after last week, he would trust Carmichael to call plays against STL and their 2nd string QB?
shite was the playcalling even that bad?
we couldnt stop Steven Jackson
our offense coudlnt get it going, but I dont think that was because of the playcalling.

Holy.. shite.
The man can barely get around with his leg. If he sits on the sidelines, he can't see the field very well and he's at risk for re-injury. The only solution at that point would be a scissor lift or something ridiculous.
If he sits in the booth, it takes too much time for him to radio in plays in crunch time (2-minute drills, etc.)
quote:
There is also no sane reason why he can't be in a wheelchair to allow him to get down to the locker room to address the team at halftime.
Are you serious Alejandro? When's the last time you tried to get up and down stairs in a wheelchair?
Posted on 10/31/11 at 1:54 pm to LSUZombie
His knee wasn't stabilized at Tampa. Now it is. Look there is a way to make this work for crying out loud. Especially at home in the Superdome with a fricking week to prepare.
He could sit 5 yards from the field with a clear view and have backup D-Linemen surrounding him in case of a collision. He could be in a wheelchair and scoot safely away from the sideline as the ball is being hiked.
There are 20 solutions better than having Carmichael call his horrible plays while a top 3 playcaller in the NFL eats a chili dog.

every stadium has elevators. this isn't fricking high school.

Payton didn't throw the ball right to the Rams twice. He isn't in charge of blocking Howie Long's kid. He's not a CB that dropped several INT's. He's not the safety that tackels with just his shoulder.
Posted on 10/31/11 at 1:57 pm to The Sad Banana
We had held the Rams to 3 points for 24 minutes.
If we had called proper plays to start the game we would have never been behind.
The INTs arose from desperation caused by a deficit caused by horrendous playcalling in the first 4 offensive series.

That goes against what you've been saying this whole time, they're trying to say he needs to get out of the booth.

Not really, because he is confined to the booth. I seriously doubt he chooses to stay up there all game and eat hot dogs and dip all game

I'm smelling troll. This doesn't add up.
There's no way you are actually saying Payton's heart is not in it because he's sitting in the press box. Good fricking God.
I know what happened, someone said Zombie was on your heels as one of the worst frequent posters on this board, and you had to steal the limelight back.
