You can tell the difference in the lsu/ saints fans and the NO saints fans that don't like lsu. Some think we should draft jones and others think he's highly overrated. Those that think he's overrated haven't watched him closely this season. While I don't think we should waste a first or maybe even second round pick on him, because of other immediate needs, geting him would be great.
This kid is young and has room to grow, physically and experience wise. Give gregg Williams some time with him and I think he could be a shiny diamond in the rough. He does need to work on coverage and taking angles but that dude is all over the field, he was our 2nd or 3rd fastest on the team at lsu, and he can bring the motha fukin wood!

I just think most people assume we don't need a safety at this time. Much more pressing needs at D-line and linebacker. Am I wrong?

Well if he is available in the 3rd round and we have already addressed our needs at say OLB and then draft him and let Sharper take him under his wing.

Chad Jones would be worth a mid-round pick (4th-5th) for a flyer at LB IMO.

eVeryone keeps saying safety but he's like 220. He could beef uf that frame and take fujitas place olb. As much as I like our whole defense, TE's killed us all year underneath. I think jones would have the speed to fly to them alot faster

I personally think he has the tools to be a great OLB one day.

Shanle and fujita are strong side lbs. We don't have a weakside. Bulk him up and he is plenty fast enough for weak side lb. I think he would have done well against the likes of Dallas Clark.

This is his position in the pros. If the Saints want to take a risk on an LB late then Jones is a good option. I'm surprised he doesn't want to pursue baseball anymore as an RP/CL or a fielder.

I think he's mid-draft material.
We won't be able to re-sign everyone...if Harper is a casualty (and I hope he's not), Jones might fill that role (or try to).

you must be crazy if you think C Jones will fill in a starter's spot.

You're right, I meant eventually.

He just seems to be touted as a more physical player, better suited to do those things Harper does best.

While I think we could find certain college players capable of stepping in and filling the role of some starters, Jones isn't going to fill a pro-bowler's spot straight out of school.

But in all likelihood, we will be losing some starters in the offseason and looking to replace them in the draft.

Im an LSU grad, season ticket holder and lifelong saints fan..

I would be SHOCKED if I ever see Chad Jones start in the NFL in any normal capacity at safety..

Feel free to quote me on that.

Jones gets caught flat footed a lot. He tackles bad angles, doesn't have NFL speed, and isn't a sure tackler. Not saying he couldn't improve that. Right now he's just a hard hitter.
