Then we went on to have really shitty 11-5 playoff berth and 13-3 playoff berth.

and then when that happened we went and hired a DC with HC experience and a Super Bowl title on his resume' as a coordinator.

Im really nervous about next season. Nothing about our team right now gives me hope. I mean an already talented defense with a new scheme and extremely talented DC to match with our lights out offense. We will prob go 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Just like the good ole days.

I enjoy the make up of our team to be honest. these damn penalties are the only thing that worries me and I have no idea what to think or expect since its so unprecedented.

eta: I still like how Stallworth killed a guy and got the same penalty as Payton and Roethlisberger raped someone and got less

Me too. But with Spags here it will be fine. There are some new guys who will have a chance to play because of the penalties, and will play their hearts out. We may see some guys step up huge. And like I've said, if Spags puts on the exact same D as Williams we are in the playoffs again, if he improves it just a little... well... knock on wood.... SB in NOLA.

Again - I bet when Spags turns this team around youre on here sayin things like - I knew he'd do well. And thank god for spags and i always believed in him.

Negative. I can admit when I'm wrong unlike some people on here. I do think Spags will do well but don't think it will be because of Hicks.

What part of those things do you think is a "sorry defense" and do you have no good thoughts about our D for next year?

I'm actually extremely optimistic about the defense for next year. I have no clue how we got Lofton from the Falcons, but that pickup is huge. For as incredible as Vilma was in his first two years he's been awful lately. This will really improve our defense tremendously. Add in Bunkley at DT and the other two LBs and we picked up a lot of good new bodies in the front seven. Still extremely worried about the back end of the defense, but putting a little less pressure on our DBs and an improved front seven should help the defense overall.

In 3 years we have won a Superbowl, the division, and made the playoffs every year. frick Saints fans are spoiled. Do you know how hard it is to constantly repeat the superbowl? We have new talent, a new coach, and a new year. GTFO with your pessimism.

I'm not saying winning the Super Bowl annually is the end-all be-all. I'm saying making scrub offenses like Seattle and San Francisco making your defense look like it's playing with 9 men is unacceptable.

As someone mentioned, all were second rounders or higher.

Well maybe dont say thing like:

This has been the worst offseason ever.

Is this such a bold statement?

I just think this staff focuses a little too much on potential when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.

That's my opinion and I believe it holds true in this case.

This sorry defense will continue to be the anchor to one of the greatest offenses and QBs in league history.

Has it not the last two seasons?

Since when has this staff done anything on the defensive end to warrant such fervent mouth-breathing adoration?

When have they?

Trust me brother I hope you're right, but we're all discounting the kind of impact SP has on this team. We claim he's a top 5 head coach (which he absolutely is) yet we think we'll just waltz to the Super Bowl in his absence?

Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I expect another 11-5 type of season where we possibly win a playoff game, but I don't see us winning it all without our General.

Lynch scored 41 points on one play? Damn, there must've been some crazy high degree of difficulty to warrant that kind of score from the judges.

I could have sworn we had the lead before allowing Alex Smith to swiss cheese us twice to win the game. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong?

The offense put the defense in a hole early but regrouped and took the lead twice against a team that struggles to move the ball explosively and quickly.

And injuries happen in football. They didn't cost us that game.

How did you deduce this from me saying I'd admit my mistake if Hicks turned out to be a great player?
