I think he's the answer but the problem is he doesn't have the type of players to run the system he's running.
He needs to adjust to the personnel he has and he is failing to do so.
You can't fix your CB issues, lack of pass rush issues, aging stars like Vilma and Harper who have lost steps, etc. Too many leaks in the damn.

If I'm Vilma and Smith, I just serve out my suspensions at this point.

We are 7 damn games into the guy's tenure here and it's a disaster season in almost every way.

As far as I'm concerned this entire team gets a pass for this season.

Give the man a chance to get some players for his system.

I just hope Payton and Loomis makes the decision based on what's best for the Saints immediate future and not what would be fair to Spags

agreed, but I'm sure he hired Spags with the understanding that it's a complicated system that takes time to work. I don't see him cleaning house yet again based off of one timultuous season. Losing Chamberlain in the preseason hurt big time, because he was brought in to be the coach on the field due to the array of assignments each player is responsible for.

If there's no improvement by season's end, then everything I just typed could be wiped out. then again, how difficult is it to improve from being the worst defense in NFL history?

He isn't the answer I have figured out the true reason why he was hired. Spags was hired to make this team have a good draft pick. Payton figured if he can not coach this season why not give the saints the worst possible defensive/ coach ever to give him the best pick he has had in his tenure as coach. Plus he figure if he cant coach this team in the super bowl no one would.

yeah I don't come to this board much anymore. between a ton of personal stuff this year, the bullshite offseason and the influx of annoying posters in ST, I lost interest in the 'discussions'. I happened to come by today and this thread grabbed my attention.

Saints need an over haul of defensive players, you can't fit a square peg in a round hole..... Unless you cut a huge hole which is basically the Saints, they leave huge holes for offensive players

If you say asking the question is stupid, then you are of the opinion that the performance of the defense, no matter how bad, is irrelevant...cause this defense is the worst we've ever seen...by a lot.

It is my opinion that it is very reasonable to question Spag's ability to put together a good defense based on what we've seen so far and the lack of money we will have to commit to the defense.

Our defense is the equivalent of an offense that averages 200 yards and 8 pts per game.

To make any hire/ fire judgments about a coach during this season is just ridiculous to me.

First year with no head coach and new players that were shitty as it comes to begin with.

I believe someone posted a stat a while back of Spags terrible rankings his first year with the Giants. Hopefully our defensive personnel mans up and we land some talent in the off-season.

That's basically what I said. You would have to totally be willing to ignore any performance to come to that conclusion.

It's pretty tough to show a single point of improvement on the defense this year. We've been worse against the run. We've been worse in coverage. We've gotten less pressure. Weve lost the ability to keep teams out of the end zone even when we give up uards We don't tackle any better. Very little influx of young talent. You can make an argument that the scheme is being exploited by our opposition rather than being an equalizer for a lack of talent.

I can't find anything that has been a positive.
