So what do we think about Kikaha?

I'm down for going heavy DL in the draft, but it's easy to forget about this guy. He led the NCAA in sacks in 2014, and had 4 sacks and 3 forced fumbles (!!) in his first 6 games. He fell off of a cliff after that, but he was dealing with injury issues and dogshit play from out DTs.
I think that we can get by with a healthy Kikaha and Edebali (who wasn't too bad last season) as our primary weakside passrushers so long as we have talent on the rest of the line. Jordan is a stud. I think Fairley will be really good for us. What I'm getting at is, if we get a capable DT in the first two rounds, I won't freak out if we don't draft a DE. Trying to make Kikaha a typical LB was a mistake. He needs to be rushing the passer 80%+ of the time.

I think a lot of guys on here called it when we drafted him last year and that he's purely a pass rusher. In my opinion, let him play on 3rd downs and passing downs and keep him fresh to get after the QB.

Best second round pick we have had in a while. I think Kikaha has a lot of upside. Sucks that he got injured early on, but his small sample size kind of shows you what he's capable of. Dude is going to ball out next season imo.

i always just assumed kikaha was way smaller than junior and could never play that spot, but, Kik's draft profile says 6'2" 253lbs and Junior 6'2" 257lbs. JG was heavier when he left obviously, but I'd love to see Kikaha's motor work in that same role.

Saints website has kikaha listed at 6'3"
He's already a better run defense than junior
I could easily see 8-10 sacks next year

We need another pass rusher to pair with him badly

I think we need some murderous DTs to pair with Fairley. Jordan and Kikaha would benefit and their play would skyrocket. Still think we need another beast at DE though.

Hopefully Sheldon Rankins.

I still have trouble pronouncing his name when put on the spot

shite corner play can make things hard on a rush end as well. I'm not convinced he will be an elite NFL pass rusher, but I think he can put up respectable sack totals every year if he has time to develop and has improved play around him.

Corner play was pretty bad last season minus Breaux. I think if we get another DT to pair with Fairley, plus getting back Keenan to pair with Breaux on the outside, we will be seeing a drastic improvement on defense.
Hopefully we can generate some turnovers finally, but that will require a decent pass rush, which we haven't had in 2-3 years. Praying we get Rankins in the first round.

If we use him playing more to his strengths. Rushing off the perimeter instead of dropping back in coverage he'll be just fine!

Agreed. Not sure why they switched him to more of a coverage role last season. Hopefully Allen comes to his senses.

This is what we expected. Turns out he was a good run defender too. It was the pass coverage that was lacking.

I think getting deeper in the secondary would enable Kikhaka to rush more often. I'm not sure I trust Lewis, Vaccaro, Breaux and Byrd to all stay healthy.

1. is Kikaha big enough to play with a hand on the ground?
2. I thought Fairley played inside.

We need DTs more, but I'd love to see us add another good pass rusher to team up with Kikaha.

I think he is better than the coaching he received and the way they used him.

I love his potential and his motor. With good health he could ball out.
Fairley should help, I'd still like to see another playmaking DT in there. They'd all the entire front 7 would benefit from each others skillsets

Tons of potential. He showed a lot of promise prior to getting injured. I want to see him play healthy and stay healthy.
