The whining can stop until someone poaches him.

Honestly, this was a dumb move. I'm pretty sure someone is going to poach him.

I know we couldn’t have done anything if a team had claimed him off waivers. But now that he’s on the PS, he can’t get poached without the Saints having the opportunity to “match” and bring him up to the 53, right?

Not saying we would do that, for Davis or anybody else, just trying to clarify the process. Or are PS guys basically unrestricted free agent who can be signed to be on any team’s 53 at any time as long as those 2 parties agree to it (player/agent and new organization). And giving their current organization a chance to “match” isn’t required and would only be done as basically a courtesy?

If some team was in love with him, they would have claimed him off waivers. As good as he looked, he’s still raw and a project, and it’s hard to keep too many guys on your 53 who aren’t expected to actually contribute in some ways on Sundays. Every team’s got their own version of Shaq Davis.

Not saying teams are unaware of his existence, though. I thought the Chargers were a possible threat since they saw him practice and he played well against them. They may still be if they have injuries. I also think it may have been good we didn’t have those practices with the Texans last week. Supposedly Shaq gained some confidence after that Chargers game and had a great week of practice last week. He may have been attractive to a team that’s clearly not ready to compete had they got to see him up close for 2 days of practice.

Tre’Quan.

I’m tired of having a WR on an NFL team only because he’s “a good blocker.” This isn’t 1990.

We all feel the same on T Smith. But they did not want to start the year looking straight at a DIV title with a ten year vet QB they just paid a lot of money to throwing balls to kindergarden kids:

No. 12 Chris Olave.
No. 13 Michael Thomas.
No. 22 Rashid Shaheed.
No. 17 A.T. Perry (rookie)
No. 10 Tre'Quan Smith.
No. 18 Keith Kirkwood.

The ONLY vet at WR is frikken MT who has not played in several years.
Now as the season goes by and they get more confident in the starters and the WR's on the PT you could see changes at the position.

I’m sure Carr appreciates having a vet on his WR corp to help Olave and Shaheed. I’m also pretty sure he appreciates having WRs that can get open and catch, while also quite possibly making something happen after said ball is caught.

But again, at least Tre can block.

Definitely the bum Tre-Quan who hasn't been cut for some bizarre arse reason. He should've been cut years ago. He must have some dirt on this organization.

I made that point yesterday. I love Shaq and Kirklin. Love their ceilings. Hate that we couldn’t keep them on the 53. But really, we couldn’t. You don’t sign 31-year-old Carr to that contract and give him MT13, who hasn’t played a full season in 3 years, and a bunch of 1st and 2nd year guys, 1 we got in the 6th round, and 3 others were UDFAs.

Thank goodness Davis and Kirklin cleared waivers and made it back to the PS. I think both are NFL WRs. It may be next year before they make a 53 and it may not be with the Saints. But I like that we get a chance to develop them and see them practice and will have the data needed to reevaluate their status down the road.

Every team has a Shaq Davis. They don’t want your Shaq Davis

Imagine a team wants a guy familiar with their offense and QB if they’re putting him on their active roster

I bet half the panic posters don't know that these poached players must go on the teams active 53 roster
