Considering where both were drafted, do you feel they were underwhelming? Rankins seemed a bit tougher than Ellis

Rankins was starting to ball out in 2018. The Achilles injury in the playoffs derailed things for him thereafter.

Ellis retired before he got a second contract. I don't have stats to back it up, but I'd speculate that Rankins' performance is in line with a lot of other first rounders. He's been a good player that unfortunately has had some injury troubles throughout his career.

I know this wasn't exactly the question, but I think he panned out better than Ellis.

Ellis would be considered close to a bust if we didn't win the SB with him.

Rankins flashed for like 1.5 seasons.

Rankins was on the verge of becoming an elite interior DL before the achilles

Sed never seemed all that interested in being elite

If I remember right, I think the Saints locked in on both of these guys at the Senior bowl.

Ellis looked like he was fixing to do something in 2010 and then after that season, fizzled out.

Rankins was on track to do better I thought but the Achilles injury as mentioned really set him back

They are pretty darn similar in stats. Both underperformed for the most part, but were never terrible or considered busts to me. If they were drafted outside of the first round nobody would bat an eye
Both had 1 really good year while the rest were mediocre.
2010 Ellis 44 tak/6 sack/2 forced fumbles
2018 Rankins 41 tak/8 sack/1 forced fumbles
