No biggie. Keep building through the trenches and secondary. When we’re more apt to compete in a couple years you can sign a bridge guy or a more high profile free agent.

Ratler > Shough

When has 'consensus' always been right? Man made global warming?

Waaaay too early to say that.
Yeah, it's getting a bit annoying hearing people say over and over, "this is a weak draft". First, it's not. Second, there will be much more clarity by the end of the season. People will separate and the Saints need quite a few positions. I agree with your takes and almost certainly we will and should be taking a QB with a top 3 pick. If Shough does something, then great we can hopefully trade down a little and grab some D and a WR plus a 1st next year.

Draft a playmaker in round one (edge rusher, WR, or CB), then a center or guard in round two. Maybe a TE in round three.

They better not draft a QB after spending a 2nd round pick on TS.With. All the help this roster needed and that was the pick, incompetence at its best.

quote:Loser thinking. Look up "sunk cost fallacy". If Shough (or Rattler) is not good enough, you don't stick with him because of prior draft cost. You keep drafting QBs until you have one.

quote:This is one of the dumbest arguments ever. Choosing a franchise QB is something that will be determined in the future and not looking back to pre-draft evaluations. If you draft Patrick Mahomes or Brady your team has a franchise QB regardless of what any pre-draft scouting says. The draft position is completely irrelevant if you hit on one.

And I’m sure you had both as the first pick of the draft. Dumb arse GMs let Mahomes slide in the in the 1st and Brady all the way to the 6th, but you knew…
As of right now, the consensus is that no QB has shown franchise QB material. One of the dumbest things you can do is argue in fricking hindsight. Everyone is a draft savant if they could make the picks 5yrs in the past.

Up to this week, Saints opponents have combined record of 33-20.
The rest of the season, our opponents have combined record of 22-32.
It will be Shough’s turn to show us what he’s got against bottom level competition. In the offseason, the coaching staff will figure out if we’ve seen enough to go QB with that top 5 pick.

You sure have a boner for bringing up Vele over and over and over again.
How is it not responsive/applicable to OP?

Everyone can post their opinions on who to draft but the Loomis factor will always be there , he will surprise everyone with the handling of the first pick, just a friendly FYI

we do want a top pick, so we can trade down. it doesn't even need to be an even trade. we need to get younger and cheaper.
Downs is my favorite.

That wasn't an answer.
The OP speculates we planned on being bad (he describes it as a "reasonable tank")
How does the Vele trade work with that strategy?

The true value of the Vele has not been written yet. You must know this. If it works out in the long run the short term tactics were correct overall despite the short term opinions.

Trading an early 4th cannot
Especially for an old player
