Coordinator to head coach. Any head coach.

It's in the Saints best interest to say no. He doesn't hate LSU. He is just doing his job.
It sucks for LSU and it sucks for Nielsen. But to say he hates LSU is childish.

And LSU is a horrible team currently. What does that have to do with anything?

That's kind of a stupid comparison

Dan Campbell was a tight ends coach snd Assistant Head Head Coach snd just got the Detroit Head Coaching job. Tell me again how that isn’t a better job than the tigers DC?

Or maybe, just maybe, he values Nielsen as a coach and didn’t want to lose him so he blocked the initial offer so that he could have some time to counter.
SP didn't want to lose another good Coach. Don't blame him.

At least you’re self aware.
LOL at all of these Saints fans that hate LSU because they couldn’t get in and had to go to school in Thibodaux

Look at tRant right now. Not a single thread started by the Saints fans. Meanwhile, over here...

Whoa! He let him interview in the first place. The staff has been raided the last 36 hours & it is not over. With all the departures, he had to keep some consistency on the D. Not about LSU. It’s business.

Why would people that hate LSU make threads there?
I’m also a Saints fan. That’s why I post here. You’re not an LSU fan. That’s why you don’t post there.

Job Stability. Who is more likely to be fired first Oregon or Payton? If I’m a young coach that definitely factors into my decision on what job I’m choosing. Hell, if O has another sub par year let’s not pretend the “for sale signs” won’t be out in his front yard. Where as Payton can stay with the Saints until he decides it’s over. There may not be a closer front office, coaching staff, & owner relationship in all of pro football.

I'm both a Saints and LSU fan. Hell, I'm typically an LSU fan first, that's why my flair is LSU and not the Saints. But the Saints are Payton's employer and that's the team he runs. He owes absolutely nothing to LSU. His coaching staff and front office is getting poached left and right and the salary cap situation isn't looking good.
So when LSU tries to poach one of his coaches despite there being clauses in his contract preventing it, and LSU apparently didn't do their due diligence to find out about this clause, how is Sean in the wrong here for giving him a promotion to retain him? Why does Sean need to look out for LSU? That's not who he coaches for, he has absolutely zero reason to be looking out for what's best for LSU. Especially when he just lost an assistant to them and a year later he was the OC at a division rival.
It's absolutely stupid on LSU's part to not know about this and think it was a sure thing. Wanna throw blame somewhere blame LSU, not Payton or the Saints for protecting themselves, which is their job. And Coach O because he lets Derek Ponamsky do coaching searches for him. Demand accountability from the people responsible, the Saints and Payton have no responsibility or obligations to LSU. Period.
