I don't think I've ever seen anything more stupid than a fan base continually relying on a defense that has made a living giving up leads with under a minute left in the game.
What gave you the thought that our defense, that hadn't stopped the 49ers all game long, had any chance whatsoever to keep them out of FG range?
Our defense this year has been great. We have a totally different roster than the years you keep mentioning. It comes down to 2 guys that can’t cover and just hold on for dear life when they are getting thrown on.

Here’s the thing. The book doesn’t know we stalled out inside the 5 a bunch and missed a two point conversation and a 4th and short.
When you can score you score.
The question you have to answer honestly is this. Which scenario do you trust more:
Behind in the game, our offense in a 1 or 2 play scenario from inside the 5 yard line to score a TD to beat the 49ers
or
Ahead in the game, our defense, who hadn't showed any ability to stop the 49ers all game long, to somehow keep them out of FG range with 53 seconds left and 3 TO's.
I know which scenario I'd rather have.

011 against the 49ers, 2017 against the Vikings, 2018 against the Rams, this year against the 49ers. How many times does the defense have to screw you over before you understand?
Before I answer this, can you tell me how many times the offense has failed to score a TD from inside the 5 with two plays And 10 sec to go?
Thanks I’ll wait.

I don't know to be honest but which side do you trust more, the offense or the defense? Answer honestly.
You know why we won the Texans game earlier this year? Because the Texans didn't have any time remaining to score against our defense!!! Because our offense finished the game!!

So Trequan goes down at the 1 and then we fumble the next play. Have to score there

Or we bleed the clock and then Brees gets a TD and we win the game. See how it can go either way.
Either way, do you trust the offense or the defense at the end of the game? I know which side I trust.

Even without hindsight I wished Smith would have given himself up at the one. I've just seen this play out too many times. Most will say you don't take points off the board but I trust Drew from the one with 3 tries to punch it in much more than I trust our defense to make a stop there. I don't know how you blame that on Payton however, when there was no way for him to know exactly what was going to happen on that play. The 2 pt play was awful though.

I see your point and your conviction to it.
But I’ve seen many goal line stands this year in the NFL to win games. And I’ve seen the Saints fail I side the five and on 2pt conversions.
So honestly, the analytics never had us at 90%. Even if we kneel at the 1 on that TD we aren’t at 90%.
We HAVE to score a TD with less than 20sec left and SF with no TOs to get to a 90% win percentage.
That’s a lot of what-ifs.

Exactly. I trust the offense to score a TD far more than I trust the defense to keep the opponents offense out of the end zone.
Brees should just overrule Payton and tell any receiver in that situation to go down at the 2 if you're about to score with more than about 20 seconds left.

Blame for this game can go a lot of ways. But the decision to go for 2 in the 1st quarter and his playcalling for both conversions were absolutely terrible. Need take the easy points in these games.

Well it wasn’t today dumbass. So your use of the word “always” isn’t fitting. The all caps makes you look even more dumb.

But you agree that it gives us a much better chance to win than scoring with 53 seconds and relying on a defense that hasn't stopped SF all day to try to keep them out of field goal range.

And what happens if we fumble or get called for holding? Then you are scrambling to get the TD. You take the points when you can and hope you can get the 2 point conversion but if not you have to hope the defense can hold.

Doesn't matter. At least the game is in the hands of the offense. If they lose it they lose it. But I trust the offense over the defense in that situation.
Even if we had gotten the 2 point conversion SF would've scored a TD. How many times do you have to see the same old story to realize that our defense will NEVER stop a good offense when it counts.
So the solution is to take the defense out of the equation. Rely on the offense to win the game instead of the defense.

No you don't!!! You realize that the defense WILL FAIL YOU!!! I wouldn't trust this defense with a 7 point lead with the opponent having 15 seconds left and no TO's. I have no faith at all in this defense.

No it's not. Scoring with a few seconds left and leaving the Saints defense with no ability to screw it up is the right thing to do.
So, I'm guessing you feel you could GUARANTEE that the Saints could've punched it in from the 1.
We lost to a better team, get over it! In the NFL, there's no guarantees. How much shyt would this board be talking if Smith took a knee at the 1 and then the Saints fumbled the next play OR simply failed to punch it in?
If the D plays better....we probably win.
If Kamara doesn't fumble....we probably win.
That's just two scenarios.

I'm saying in this scenario I'll take my chances with Drew Brees and the offense over our defense. If you're being honest you would feel the same way.
Be honest, like me you knew deep down the Saints lost this game when we scored with 53 seconds left.

At this point it’s a risk I want Payton and the saints to take. frick the defense in the final minute of any big game.

There is no way for me to argue against this given the outcome.
I do know the Saints defense has had stops in crunch time before. This year out of any (with Drew’s injury and the horrible play calls and officiating) it’s hard to know what to say.
