Good morning Who Dats and Who Datettes, it's the Week 14/Game 13 Saints Game Thread
Just a friendly reminder... there's only 1 team officially IN the playoffs at this moment
But as the division title shirts say... The South is NOT Enough
In order to achieve our bigger goals, homefield advantage would help immensely, and the Saints can take a huge step to achieving that particular goal today when the Saints welcome in that irritating team from the left coast, the San Francisco 49ers
If you're old enough to remember the Dome Patrol Saints with Bobby Hebert at QB and head coach Jim Mora, Sr... then there's 1 team you hate more than them all... and no it's NOT the Atlanta Falcons... but rather the 49ers
During the Saints original golden era of the late 80s & early 90s... the Saints were as good as any team in the league... except 1... and that team just happened to be in our division at the time, the old NFC West. When the Saints won 12 games... there's the 49ers with 13 wins, a division title, a bye week in the playoffs, and homefield throughout
And now... 30 years later... we get a chance to perhaps force a double-digit win 49er squad into the Wild Card Round like they did to us those many moons ago, but unlike those old day, we could force them to win 3 road games in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl if we win today.
Looking at today's match-up, the Saints have had 10 days to rest and recover following the division-clinching win on Thanksgiving night in Atlanta, while the 49ers haven't gone home since dropping their 2nd game of the season last week to the Baltimore Ravens.
For the Saints to get the win today that just may clinch the #1 seed in the NFC, the Saints will have to be able to move just enough against the league's #1 defense, including the #1 passing defense giving up just 134 passing yards per game and 250.9 total yards per game.
However the Saints D, the 3rd best in the NFL against the run, HAS to cut down the 49er run game and put the game in the hands of Jimmy G and make him beat you.
LET'S BANKRUPT THE 49ERS AND SET OURSELVES UP TO MAKE THE ROAD TO MIAMI COME THROUGH NEW ORLEANS ONCE AGAIN!!!
Suddenly, one of the deepest areas of the Saints roster is now depleted as the linebacking corps will be without both AJ Klein (knee) & Kiko Alonso (thigh) today. The OL is still hurting as Andrus Peat (forearm) & Zach Line (knee) are also both out, and Will Clapp showed up on the injury report on Thursday with an elbow injury and was limited, and then didn't practice at all on Friday and is QUESTIONABLE. HOWEVER, it seems like the All-Pro left tackle may be ready to return as Terron Armstead is QUESTIONABLE for today's game, which is an upgrade from OUT, which he's been since suffering the high ankle sprain against the Falcons in the Superdome. CB Patrick Robinson is questionable with a calf injury and TE Jason Vander Laan is now on IR.
The 49ers have a lot of players on the injury report, but most are good to go. The biggest injury for SF is S Jaquiski Tartt, who will miss today's game with a rib injury. DT Julian Taylor is also out today with a knee injury. A late addition to the 49er injury report is WR Marquis Goodwin who was limited on Friday with a knee/foot injury and is QUESTIONABLE today. WR Dante Pettis is also QUESTIONABLE with a knee injury.
Weather: The forecast calls for a playoff-like atmosphere inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome today.
Uniforms: In the Dome means all-black uniforms again for the Saints
Playoff Clinching Scenarios:
The Saints have clinched the NFC South Division Championship and can not clinch anything further today.
San Francisco 49ers clinch a playoff berth with:
A) 49ers win + Rams loss or tie (vs. Seahawks 7:20 PM)
B) 49ers tie + Rams loss
Current Standings:
NFC South
Saints 10-2
Bucs 5-7
Panthers 5-7
Falcons 3-9
NFC West
Seahawks 10-2
49ers 10-2
Rams 7-5
Cardinals 3-8-1

Gotta bad feeling about today
I don’t see this Saints team running the table through the playoffs.
Too many good teams in the NFC this year which is unfortunate.
Last year was our year.
