Congrats to the Late-Great Sam Mills on his enshrinement to the Pro Football Hall of Fame today! An All Time Great Saint and member of the Dome Patrol has earned his rightful place in Canton.

retired as a panther

saints never did shite to thank the man for all he did for us and the many great years he gave us

panthers put a statue of him in front of the stadium and he is celebrated there as the GOAT yet nothing like that ever happened here and he left feeling used and unwanted here as he said in his own words

You don’t retire as anything in football, he doesn’t go into the HOF wearing a damn helmet

His family has said nothing but good things about the Saints and New Orleans and Jim Mora is his presenter

Like always, you have no fricking clue what you’re talking about

Only reason Mills was even remembered that he played with the Panthers because he retired from and then eventually coached there. All of his most productive years with the Dome Patrol came as a Saint.

Kinda underselling it. He was the leader of the team when they went to the NFC title game in their 2nd season, he invented the slogan they still use, and there's the statue.

A Panther.

He walked out on the Saints.

Left for even (or maybe less) money.

I met Sam when he volunteered his time to take some juvenile males (at a NOLA group home I worked at) to a haunted house run by former NOLA sheriff Foti on Halloween. What a class act. Very deserving honor!

He was one of the all time greats if not the best! That’s all that matters to me! Dude played above his size and showed that heart and determination will get you everywhere’s!

He’s in the Saints Ring of Honor!
The Saints have two statues: Benson and the Blocked Punt.

Sam Mills was a wonderful player and reportedly a great person. Also much loved as a coach. Definitely deserves to be honored and remembered. In the ugly corners of my mind, though, can’t help but think that if he hadn’t died so tragically he would not be in the Hall of Fame. 1st Team All-Pro once. 5 pro-bowls. Just not a classic HOF resume. King of intangibles and leadership, though. Glad for his family and friends he got this honor.

He was given up in the expansion draft, the saints let him go.
Pat swilling was in Detroit, rick lacks was in San Fran and Vaughn Johnson was in Philly I think the team was in a rebuild

Mills was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 1998, and he is on the ring of honor

But why do people feel that he was much more honored by the Panthers than by the Saints?? I mean those honors by the Saints came much later on than the honors he received from the Panthers with that nice statue and all.
