Yea sean is just cutting it off here with some compensation. Has anyone discussed Hoomanawanui's contract? How much is he making? Are we saving money by trading Hicks for him? There's no way we used the Brees cap space here right?

Saved $600k in the trade.

"we're gonna have such a fabulous defensive line... you're not gonna be able to believe it... it's gonna be big and full of yuge guys...GREAT guys... we're gonna get so many sacks you're gonna get tired of us getting sacks... and the Falcons are gonna pay for it."

@TheSaintsBeat: #Saints trade has no major $$ implications. Hoomanawanui's salary is $850k, Akiem Hicks $1.53M. Only $150K for Saints to carry as dead money

Also, both are FA next year

Can you imagine how this team would have been if Payton hadn't lucked into Brees and Colston?

I guess everyone missed Hicks getting benched in game two and not starting in game three. Richardson took his place and has been doing a much better job.

Trading him now saves some money and gets us something for someone who was on the verge of being inactive for the rest of the year.

We were likely going to cut him to save the money anyway. Especially after he whined about being benched.

I would have rathered a conditional 7th rounder than this

Would have freed up more cap space

So congrats on another wasted pick and failed development.

How bad will the melt be when Belichick & his staff turn Hicks into a force at DT? The hoody was probably eyeing Hicks closely during the joint practices in training camp.

I wouldn't call him "wasted"

He gave some solid production at times but was very inconsistent. I mean he wasn't SJB or Toon or anything.

Ok bad. We got a year of production out of a 3rd rd pick.

Thankfully the guys that did have input in drafting him/toon/sjb are gone.

We need another draft like this years bad

I didn't mean you in general, just the overall fanbase & this board in particular.

A silver lining to this mess is that some of them will hopefully jump off.

So Hicks fell into a rotational spot. He was likely not gonna be brought back next year so we got a blocking TE for him.

Whatever. This move can't hurt us at this point, so I refuse to get upset about it.

Payton's been eyeing a third TE and specificslly mentioned it when asked about roster moves. Not the third TE many would want but there it is.
