Saints should have gone for 2 after TD end of 4Q

Situation: 1:07 left, TD made it 24-23. Most likely outcomes are that 1) you convert the 2 pts and then have to keep Detroit from driving into FG range, 2) you kick the XP then have to keep Detroit from driving into FG range, or 3) you fail to convert the 2 and lose.
Did we really think our odds were better in a full overtime period against a better team? When you have a shot at executing one play to give you a good shot at winning in regulation, you have to take it rather than counting on a bunch of things to go right for you in OT.
I know it’s MOOT but I don’t understand the reasoning.

The 2 PF Penalties rendered any choice made here irrelevant.

There was nothing I saw today that showed me the Lions were the better team. Shough was just that bad early in the game.

They literally punted the ball back to us on 4th down they wouldn’t have done that down 1

The problem with going for it is if you make it you still run the risk of losing to a fG.
In fact, they don’t punt and go for it on 4tj in that situation.
In OT it’s a no brainer because if you get it the game is over.

At that point in the game (assuming the Saints had gone for 2 and converted), which would you say is more likely:
1) Saints defense either stops the drive or Lions advance and miss a FG
OR
2) Saints win in both phases of the game in OT
