Dennis Allen likes that Hybrid LB/Safety role which is becoming more prominent in todays game.

Think Cam Chancellor, Eric Berry, Jabril Peppers, Etc. I think so got after a player that fits that skill set. Mathieu may not have the size to do it and will be expensive, Reid showed last year he's better if you leave him as full time safety.

Not sure who fits that bill in free agency currently as its a newer position in the NFL.

Honey Badger can line up all over the field. His versatility is what makes him so good. Great locker room guy as well. I wonder what he will want to get paid.

agree my only concern would be his size in dropping down to defend the run. That's something we had Vacarro do a lot and he excelled at. Honey Badger might be good at this also, but I admit I haven't paid attention to him much in the NFL

Not to sound homerish, but I feel like he's good at everything. He was at LSU at least. He just has a way of finding the ball and swarming to it.

At least what he is getting paid now. Way too much $$$ for him IMO.

Mathieu WAY too expensive.

I dunno. Saints have a good amount of cap space this year barring whatever impacts the Brees deal holds against that cap for 2018.
ETA: I think the bigger thing is y'all are making him to be better than he truly is?

He's had some flashes but I don't think he's better than Above Average, at best, on a down-to-down play basis.

Based on last offseason, project the Saints will probably go grab 1 high-priced FA that makes sense (Warford at ˜$8mil)

Then go grab some low price filler guys who can play but are either "too old" or never had the chance (Ted Ginn, Klein, etc.) and hope they succeed.

Honey Badger would fit into that high-priced FA category and would be an upgrade over Vaccaro.

Yeah I'm fully expecting us to sign at least one high priced guy, especially now that we finally have some cap breathing room.

We signed Byrd and Fleener in years where we were about a penny under the cap so I won't put anything past Loomis

A source confirmed that free agent safety Kenny Vaccaro won't be back with the Saints. And Vaccaro said he's basically seen the writing on the wall since the team hasn't tried to re-sign him before now. "I'm looking forward to free agency," said the 2013 first-round draft pick. "I love the Saints, my teammates and coaches, but it's a business and I have sacrificed too much to not go get paid and be able to keep providing for my family. That's just the way it is sometimes." ... LINK

Here we go again giving away our first round dbs. Go join Jenkins and Robinson tearing it up and getting rings because the saints front office is a shite show.
