The saints have already proved how worthless we can make firsts when we pick them. Send those picks to Houston and get your QB for the next decade. I really don’t see how this is a debate.

I do agree they have to move swiftly one way or the other. Not sure Winston sits around and waits too long to see what we decide.

Watson is better than what you have now, but he is not going to win you a superbowl.

Aside from Lattimore what first rounders have impressed you?

I’m sorry that I’d rather have a top 6 qb than 3 first rounders we’d probably waste on guards.

Do you know what you’re talking about?

I realize he has to agree to come here. Im mainly referencing moving fast. If he says no Jameis should already have a contract offer. We cant lose Jameis if Watson choses elsewhere.

Well this is bullshite

He’s certainly a super bowl level talent

Need I remind you Joe Flacco and Trent Dilfer have won Super Bowls?

Saints already have a top shelf defense to go along with Watson and they are instant contenders

Cam Jordan was over a decade ago to be fair… there’s without a doubt more misses than hits of our firsts

Okay? I’m saying that the Saints drafting strategy and front office has changed since then

Cam is an all timer. Ruiz isn’t.

Here is part of the problem.

First round picks are cost controlled for the longest period of time.

If you are paying a QB big money, you need cost controlled talent to make the salary cap feasible.

If you don't, you are increasingly relying on UDFAs or low cost vets that aren't typically at the same talent level.

Its why a lot of teams struggle after paying their QB finally after their rookie contract is up.

Anyone judging Saints 1st rounders should probably focus on 2015 to date since that is when Ireland joined the Saints.

2015: Peat, Anthony
2016: Rankins
2017: Latt & Ram
2018: Davenport
2019: Traded for Davenport
2020: Ruiz
2021: Turner

As much as we love Latt & Ram, it would appear that year was the anomaly. Obviously Turner has showed signs & Davenport is great when healthy; but other than 2017 I think we can all agree we would trade the rest of the 1st rounders for Watson.

Something has to give and it’s been shown that it’s nearly impossible to win a SB in this current era without an elite stud QB, who are few and far between and even more difficult to acquire unless you draft them.

thing is though this roster is built pretty well to not need those first rounders in the short term if you add a top tier QB to it. Also potential to land those discount ring chasing FAs

I think we're at a crossroads here to where we need to commit one way or other 1) go all in and get watson 2) accept the rebuild and begin to suck to land the franchise qb

we can kid ourselves into thinking winston or one of those rookie is good enough to win anything of significance but best case is you're a .500ish team in NFL purgatory.
