The NFL failed coaches circle will never cease to amaze me.

Not to mention this is Allen’s defense. It was never Nielsen or Richard. That’s like giving Carmichael all the credit for offensive success under Sean. Woods isn’t going to be calling plays he’s gonna be holding Allen’s water bottle.

Woods is one of the best coaches at defending the pass.

Then why did he get fricking fired? Their fans AND beat reporters said they were multiple instances of busted coverage during his entire tenure there IN ADDITION to having the worst run D in the NFL. They don’t have piss poor talent on that defense the way Spags had here. They have one of, if not THE best defensive player in Myles Garrett and the rest of their talent on D is average at WORST.

So, no, man. Your argument is fricking terrible.

Just admit you're overly emotional and looking for anything, even if it isn't factual, to trash the coaches. Browns ranked 5th in pass defense (yards) in 21 and 22

quote:

Woods was brought to Minnesota in 2006 along with Defensive Coordinator Mike Tomlin, who worked with him as a secondary coach in Tampa Bay. Woods spent eight seasons coaching defensive backs in Minnesota. The Vikings finished among the NFL's top 10 defenses in four of his first five years with the team, capturing back-to-back NFC North Division titles from 2008 to 2009 and making an NFC Championship Game appearance following the 2009 season.[1]

Woods joined the Broncos as defensive backs coach in 2015 and promptly won the first Super Bowl of his career. He was elevated to defensive coordinator for the 2017-18 seasons before joining the 49ers as pass game coordinator/DBs coach in 2019.

The 49ers defense held opponents to 169.2 passing yards per game, ranking first in the NFL in 2019, and the lowest total allowed by an NFL team since 2009 (New York Jets 153.7).

San Francisco also led the league with 21 forced fumbles. In addition, the 49ers ranked among the NFL leaders in passing first downs allowed (150, tied for first), total yards per game allowed (281.8, second), average yards per play allowed (4.66, second), red zone trips allowed (40, second), defensive touchdowns (five, tied for third), sacks (48, tied for fifth), total takeaways (27, sixth), opposing passer rating (83.0, seventh) and points per game allowed (19.4, eighth).

That's really great man. Now look at their run defense. They were ranked in the 20s in DVOA in 2 out of his 3 seasons there. That's not good but yeah, lets ONLY look at how great the pass defense was while he was DC.

I'm not doubting his ability to coach the secondary. If DA was looking at him as our secondary coach, I'd be all for it. But even interviewing him as our DC, even if he wouldnt be calling it, is just more of what to expect under DA and Loomis. Just hiring retreads or friends and hoping it works out. Working with someone you're comfortable with, instead of working with someone you dont know, who might challenge you on some of your decisions but who might ultimately be a better fit in every other facet just screams incompetency. DA and Loomis want yes men, not people who could actually help them win.

It's 2023, I'm more concerned about his defenses being below average at takeaways than stopping the run.

Allen runs the D so I am not that worried about it. Its laughable to bring in a buddy but whatever, that's the NFL.

Allen just stinks as a HC, and the offense will be shite, again.

Like 80% of nfl hires are people they coaches with ir people that were recommended by people they know.

This isn't new.

How are they "buddies"

By the way i hate dennis allen. I've never seen a coach less animated on the sideline after a bad call.

The Niners are looking at several candidates to replace DeMeco Ryans and Woods ain't one of them.
