The Heath Evans Foundation 7-on-7 Football Championships will be held June 12 at the King’s Academy, 8401 Belvedere Road. The invitation-only tournament will feature 18 high school teams from around the state, including state champions Miramar, Tampa-Plant and William T. Dwyer.

Local teams include Olympic Heights, Atlantic, Park Vista and Glades Day. Competition begins at 9 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Evans, a King’s Academy graduate, played fullback for the Super Bowl-champion New Orleans Saints last season. Other National Football League stars expected to attend the competition are Randy Moss, Vince Wilfork, Kevin Faulk and Abe Elam.

Entry fee is $5. Proceeds will benefit the Heath Evans Foundation, a non-profit organization that fosters hope and healing in the lives of children and families affected by sexual abuse.

For information, call (561) 282-6345 or glenn.martin@heathevans.org.

Found this-

She also won the online vote to join the Challenge, earning the chance to play Pebble next week - in rugged U.S. Open conditions - alongside New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, hockey great Wayne Gretzky and actor/producer Mark Wahlberg.

- HERE

but haven't seen anything about an appearance by him there. Anyone else?

Payton said Sunday that the entire team will travel to Plaquemines Parish to visit and eat with relief workers and those directly affected by the disaster.

And they’ll bring the Lombardi Trophy with them.

“It should go there,” Payton said.

The team was initially supposed to visit with Gov. Bobby Jindal and other legislators at the governor’s mansion in Baton Rouge, La.

But plans changed and listening to those involved, they changed for the better.

“I think the idea of switching gears and having that lunch down there is appropriate,” Payton said. “I know the players, all of us are looking forward to kind of being down there and spending some time with those people that are going through so much.”

Wow! talk about doing things right!?! This team has it nailed

MORE ON IT...

What's more, several Saints made it clear they welcomed that duty. They see it as a privilege, not a burden. Quarterback Drew Brees, for example, famously said if he could swim down and stick his golden hand in the gushing pipe and stop it he would, and defensive end Will Smith said it was pointless to be a force in the community if you didn't use that power to uplift the community.

When he first learned of the disastrous British Petroleum spill, Brees said he found himself thinking, "why us?" But after a moment's more reflection, he thought, "why not us," because southern Louisiana has already proven itself such a resilient zone.

good fark op!

Gulf Breeze High graduate and New Orleans Saints fullback Jason McKie will sponsor an MVP Training Camp with the help of trainers from Acceleration Fitness July 16-18 at Shoreline Park.

The camp, which is open to kids ages 6-14, is $200 per person before July 6 and $235 after July 6. Cost includes a t-shirt, water bottle and autograph photo of McKie.

Snacks and meals are also included in the price.

“I’ve been wanting to do one for a long time. It just came down to the planning. We’re definitely doing it this year,” said McKie, a 1998 GBHS grad who signed with the Saints May 24 after spending six of his previous eight years with the Chicago Bears.

“It’s kind of like being a rookie all over again,” McKie said of his new team. “I’ve just getting familiar with a new offense.”

McKie, who still resides in Chicago, signed a one-year deal and will be heading to Saints training camp the week after the Gulf Breeze camp.

“I just want to show them that dreams do come true,” McKie said “I’ve been in the situation they were. I’ve been blessed to have played in the NFL, going on nine years now.”

Among the things campers will learn are: speed, agility, form tackling, blocking and passing and catching. The camp is from 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. The camp will conclude with a flag football tournament Sunday.

For more information, call either Lori Hill at (850) 449-9600 or Jud Odom at (850) 225-1234.

I see what you did there.

But the real question is this: are they going to shoot up some TVs?

Payton's book is out next Tuesday so he is going full bore to promote it-

Early next week, Payton can be seen on a variety of cable and network television talk shows, including “Dr. Phil’’.

Also on Monday, he will be wall-to-wall live on ESPN/ESPN2 in Bristol, Conn., beginning with “Mike & Mike in the Morning’’ and other shows throughout the day. On Tuesday, Payton is scheduled to be on the “Today Show’’ (WDSU-TV, 7 a.m.), NFL Network, Sirius Radio, “The O’Reilly Factor’’ (FOXNEWS, 7 & 10 p.m.) and “The Daily Show/Jon Stewart’’ (Comedy, 10 p.m.).

Payton already has taped a guest spot to be aired on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show’’ in late July.

The Central New York Football Academy hosted by Mike Hart, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and Tyvon Branch is an opportunity for these current NFL players to return to their birth place and to give back to their community. The camp is June 26, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Sunnycrest Park in Syracuse.
