Far more than the last 2:

6 out of his 7 years have been very low, and the other year was just eh.

Rarely do the Saints keep six wideouts

Also just saw this. We kept 6 receivers maybe every year we had Roby. The 6th guy fills a spot on special teams. There have been other years we started with 6 as well.

Both Callaway and Harty can fill that kind of role, as can Merrit if he sticks.

Edit: Only had to look back to 2019 for the last time we started with 6. Thomas on PUP last season may have affected us only keeping 5 as well.

2019

2018

And then a big gap once we started losing those receivers from the SB run and Roby

2012

2011

2010

2009

I think what this displays pretty clearly is that it's down to talent level and special teams.

This year I think we have both the talent and the players that can play special teams to keep 6. Last year with Thomas we may have also kept 6.

Was reading an article for another 53 man projection, and he made an interesting point about Alontae Taylor.

quote:

This is as secure a position as there is on the roster, with the lone question coming in regard to Alontae Taylor, who has missed the last several days of practice and is yet to appear in a preseason game.

Could they be trying to keep Taylor off of film to stash him on PS (assuming he's not playing due to injury) so they can keep someone else around?

Completely agree on Book.
We can use Taysom as our emergency 3rd string QB.
That roster spot should go to someone who can provide valuable depth.

If we cut him, we lose him. Somebody will claim him just because of when he was picked. Or he will get multiple PS offers besides the Saints.

I'm not convinced he's in the 6 we keep if we do.

Who you keeping over him?

Davis and Werner are locks... Elliss, Wilson are highly likely... Hanson has looked good, but that's vs. shite players in the preseason... Bostic has 3 NFL seasons of 95+ tackles... his most recent full season (2020) was his most productive yet... personally, i think we do keep 6 and both of them make it to the team, but if comes down to Hanson or Bostic for the last LB spot, give me Bostic

Lets give it a shot, Ravens have had some success with a RB playing QB.

Taylor has been working on the side with a trainer, which leads me to believe he's dinged up. Sounds like he will go this Friday as of now.
