The ESPN power panel -- a group of more than 80 writers, editors and TV personalities -- evaluated how all 32 teams stack up, with a look at players who could be surprising contributors or veterans who are in danger of being left off the roster.

WR Tre'Quan Smith. The rookie third-round draft pick from Central Florida has made some of the flashiest plays throughout training camp and the preseason opener, showing a good combination of size and speed at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. Coaches have still been harping on him for issues such as communication, alignment, etc. But his big-play ability should get him on the field as a third or fourth receiver. -- Mike Triplett

As long as the rams aren’t ahead of us it’s a good ranking

It's ESPN. Who are we behind? LeBron James and Tiger Woods?

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to guess.

He looked smaller than that to me the other night. Maybe it's the #10 jersey f'ng with my mind.

I thought so too - then I realized that we don't have midgets on the roster anymore save for Tommy Lee, so it's all relative.

Screw espn and their rankings. Last year when they showed the saints no respect everybody on here said they were irrelevant. I’m going to stick to that. It’s nice to see saints getting respect but still screw espn.

Wait, that's a bad thing to be ranked in the top 3, right? I was reading yesterday on the LSU board that it was good to be the underdog with most sports writers and coaches thinking your team will lose half its games. It's actually "right where we want to be" and we'll catch people "sleeping on us."

Dang it! What the heck are the Saints going to do now?
