This is not a desirable job. We could do a lot worse than McCarthy.

I see your point in that Andy Reid had become a bit of a punchline in Philly before finding his stride in KC. But this doesn't feel much like that. McCarthy seems to have a very real ceiling whereas a younger coordinator could be more boom or bust.

Seems like we should roll the dice.

Well when you think mediocrity is success, you're happy with a hire like that

Dear Lord.....and sweet baby Jesus

We beseech thee to intervene on behalf of the suffering fans of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast in the search for a new leader to guide our beloved Saints .

Lord,
Our patience has been tested. We have suffered since your agents Drew Brees and Sean Payton have moved on to Walk On, Pickleball, Denver and other endeavors. We have suffered Dennis Allen and Mickey Loomis. We have been tested by Derek Carr and his hospital balls. Tortured by by 200 yard rushing days . We have experienced iniquities of wholesale devastating injuries to our receivers, running backs and defensive backs.

Merciful father,
Please guide, or intercede on our behalf and strike down anyone who would suggest that the solution to our problems would be Mike McCarthy, Rex Ryan,Marvin Lewis or any retread that a team like Dallas or the NY Jets would consider. Lord , smite down Mickey Loomis or Dennis Lauscha or even your servant Gayle Benson if they were to attempt this.

Lord,
Forgive us our sins, we repent our shortsighted cap ways. Our foolish free agent and draft missteps and hubris.

Amen

Why would you think this? In what career are things fully merit based? People hire people they know and have worked with before people they don’t know. And of course that makes sense it’s smart to base a hire on actual previous experience instead of a few hours of an interview.

In what career are your pool of canidates resume' televised besides sports, politics & acting? Sure, a hardware store owner might hire his college buddy to manage the buiness because of their amicable relationship history, but nobody is televising that buddy's work history of success and recent failures, much less other unfamiliar but successful hardware store managers that could have potentially been hired.

The Saints' HC candidates don't have to be limited to ex-employees like Aaron Glenn or Mike McCarthy. Every potential "unfamiliar" candidate's resume' is already televised, analyzed & graded on merit for retreads & rising coordinators.

Yes. I’ve seen Dallas, that’s why I can’t believe the saints would even consider this.

I can believe it. The Saints willingly hired one of the worst head coaches in NFL history.

Your example is based on friendship. That’s not what this is. It’s someone you’ve worked with before and think is very good. This is very common in the corporate world. You hire people you know are good because you’ve worked directly with them.

And of course it shouldn’t be limited to people that have worked with the saints but saying it’s crazy that they want to hire people they know doesn’t make sense.
