Right Team, wrong player. Taylor Mays all the way.

I'd rank our defense as follows in terms of best to worst... This was our ideal starting 11

Based on this year only, my rankings are:

1. Vilma
2. McKenzie
3. Fujita
----
4. Porter
5. Gay
6. Dunbar
7. Grant
8. Clancy
9. McCray
10. Ellis
11. B. Young
12. Harper
----
13. Smith
14. U. Young
15. KK
16. Bullocks
17. Shanle

4. Porter (should pass David next year)

Dude, Porter injured is still better than #42.

6. Glenn (good skills but too old)

Glenn is better than Young and #42.

I live a mile from the Colisseum... Rey and Cushing are beasts... either one would be money in the bank. I think I prefer Rey though, he's got a ton of size on Cushing... though Cushing has heart.

rey rey = MLB

vilma = MLB

generally there are a lot of medium-level OLBs on the market every year. we should target OLB in FA

draft should target OL and good values across the board other than DE (too much invested) and MLB (vilma is young)

hell even drafting a good QB would be smart b/c brees can't live forever

Taylor Mays is severely lacking in ball skills....he'll put up a sickening combine though and probably shoot up draft boards though

i might be wrong but no show mareno is just a sophmore and so is crabtree so neither one of them are draft eligable "lots of missed spelled words but oh well"

I'd rather Malcolm Jenkins.

crabtree and moreno can declare if they choose.

i'm pretty sure crabtree will go pro.. and i'm pretty confident the raiders will go goo-goo ga-ga over him.. plus it has been ages since al davis went receiver first round..

rey maualuga is an inside guy.. there's also james laurinaitis and brandon spikes who are also inside guys.. i believe MLB taken high in the draft make the most impact as a rookie.. however we need OLB..

the top OLBs are curry and cushing.. then there is a greater drop off than at ILB in this draft.. but i believe we could go BPA and draft any position with our first round pick..

we definitely need to make it a priority to resign vilma!

i agree. i wish we could have had a shot at lance briggs when he was going to hold out.. if we do draft OLB we may need to do it early because there is a HUGE drop off quickest here than any other position.

well-said.. however OL is DEEEEEEP in this draft and i honestly believe we can go best available player. and no we don't need DE bc grant, smith, and mccray are solid staples at that position.

i wanted us to draft trent edwards so badly 2 years ago in the 2nd or 3rd round.. but i don't think we should draft a QB in this year's draft. i know this is crazy but i wouldn't mind holding onto Harrington one more year. then again.. graham harrell would be one badass 3rd round draft choice if we have a 3rd round pick..

if we somehow get a 2nd round draft pick possibly via trade for extra picks or something..then i'd love to see this guy as a saint..
shonn
4:38 is amazing.. he's such a complete NFL style runningback that would compliment Reggie so well.. a lot like what the titans have now.. but way better.

Any decent LBer can probably look good next to Vilma and Fujita. Shanle ain't decent though.

I think Dunbar should be in that spot right now. He can't be worse than Shanle. No way.

Oher and A. Smith are studs and I don't think they will be there by the time the Saints draft. If they aren't, that's when I'd look for a guy like Mays or Moore. After you can look at Cushing, C. Black, Curry, Monroe, etc.

BTW, this Mock Draft has us taking Curry at OLB.

either we draft a OLB or FS. I hope to draft Curry and get a free agent FS, because any safety in the draft will be a reach at where we will be drafting. (unless we trade back in the 1st round) After those two needs we should look into a OT.

i think spikes is overall better... better coverage linebacker... and Maualuga over pursuits WAY too much.

There aren't many good saftey prospects in the FA market this coming up year. Jordan Gross and two or three other tackles are FA this year and Shanle's spot should be filled by Dunbar or a FA next year. That's the reason I value the safety position in the draft, because the FA market is so weak and we have a decent OLB in Dunbar and can get a good or great LT in FA.
FWIW and IMHO.

yeah if OLB is more crucial then I like Cushing a lot, mostly because I see him play a lot. Both he and Rey seem to be involved with every single tackle the SC defense makes no matter where it is on the field. Cushing in particular, is one of those guys who absolutely will not give up on a play, ever, until the ball carrier is down. I like that about him. But he does seem a little smaller than guys like Lauranaitus.

yes this is true but the draft isn't very good at the FS position either. Brain Dawkins is set to be a FA i think. Not a long term fix, but for a year or two this move sounds good.

and yes Curry is that good. He just stands out on the field. Also Dunbar seems to be a exciting player but he still needs time to develop his coverage skills. Hopefully, he steps up though.

Cush is way bigger than Laurinitis. I had a pic of Rey, Cush, and Laurinits in street clothes at the playboy pre-season AA party. Rey and Cush were much bigger than JL

cushing is listed around 6'3 245-255 and james laurinaitis is listed everywhere as 6'3 240.
