Experience in college football and being around the coaches matters, don't need actual starts to learn how to play the position although it helps

In all of that weird melt, you are still leaving out the most important variable in the discussion had at that time.
We had a HIGHLY unusual series of events occur between the draft and week 1 last year.

Yea I mean we literally had the benefit of watching him prove himself his rookie year and knew exactly what we would be getting at an extremely dire position

The issue with the Vele trade is if we're not a contender by 2027 he didn't really provide any value to the franchise and the 4th, even though it was a low %, could have. Vele has very low long-term value. When his rookie deal is up he'll be 30 or 31 and we can't justify extending him.
Lots of people are riding emotions now over a win and forgetting we're still rebuilding with a ton of holes and are a long way from title contention. That's what typical fandom does, but it doesn't change the underlying valuation considerations.

we should've won last week and we did win this week with Vele making huge catches. he was worth every ounce of that pick and will deserve a contract from us if he stays healthy
