Guy hit the gondola at the Pro Bowl and was aiming for it. It was raised 50' higher after that. The idiot commentator Howard Cosell mocked the Dome and Louisiana when that happened. The anti-South prejudice on the major sports networks was really strong at that time.

I too was at the 1976 Pro Bowl game when Guy hit the gondola. It was definitely raised 50 ft. afterwards. One thing about the Superdome field, you were basically playing on concrete. There was no foam padding between the astroturf and the cement ground. My mom worked for the Saints as a season ticket sales representative from 1974-1987. I saw lots of Saints games and other sporting events from the sidelines as I would get a “Field Pass” allowing me to watch the game from anywhere. The original Saints ticket office was located at Lee Circle.

Russell Erkslaben (the Mile High Kicker) hit the top of those old center screens.... might only go 30 yards forward but it would almost hit the roof...

The fact that he went out of his way to do it was a very Raider thing to do.

For young ones, there was a time when the Raiders were just pure outlaws and sort of looked the part and Madden was the only person who could even somewhat control them

I watched an MLB preseason game and one of the players was trying to hit a speaker with a baseball, he couldnt do it. Speaker was pretty high up though.
