It’s shocking to me that this board doesn’t seem to realize that Rattler is absolutely starting week one.
Not because Shough is a huge bust or anything but why would you throw Shough to the wolves week one on a bad team with no real hope for this season? And then if struggles you have to bench him for Rattler and it gets messy.
The obvious choice is you start Rattler and if he has a miracle Sam Darnold season then great. Most likely he’s bad and we’re 2-6 after 8 weeks. Then you turn to Shough after he’s had two months to acclimate and has no pressure and you see what you have. And then fanbase is still invested because it’s a potential future QB playing.

Unpopular opinion…. CKM drafted Shough as extra depth…. Not as a future starter. He wanted at least one of “his guys” to compete.

For what it’s worth, Todd McShay was very vocal in support of Shough. He even had some “sources” putting him in the 2nd round; but seemed like he had him with NYJ or Pitt

Did I say I liked him at 40? I just pointed out that 1 “expert” was in record for liking him. He also linked him to the 2nd round. NYJ passed on Shough with the #7 overall, and did not pick again until 2 slots after the Saints drafted him. So can’t really say they “left him on the board” when the “source” linked them to him in the 2nd.
Don’t know how McShay was linking him to Pitt w a 2nd round grade because they gave up their 2nd for Metcalf. Did he think they were considering him at 21? No clue, and don’t care enough to search for his articles and predraft thoughts
