We fans worry about salary cap etc, but Underhill had an interesting tweet the other day. The front office is not scared of the salary cap like this board is. I

Short term, they can make it work. Long term, they keep screwing the team. That's the issue. We keep adding more and more dead cap every year which restricts our ability to sign guys or rework deals.

That's why winning a SB is such a longshot, even if we get Carr and somehow keep Thomas. We have so much dead cap eating up our cap from prior shenanigans, we can't re-sign critical guys and FAs. Our roster has major holes for this reason and teams with major holes don't often win SBs.

Underhill also was of the opinion that the front office feels like winning now is the only thing that can make the Saints as a business work.

How terribly run is the Saints organization if this is true? You have to try to lose money as an NFL team.

Thank you. I don't know why this seems so far fetched to everyone else.

Lots of people here will be happy but this means he didn’t think our team was good enough

Spoiler alert: we’re now.

Dude if we whiff on Carr, we will be drafting top 5 next year

That’s exactly what this franchise needs.

Stop trying to fix things with bandaid QBs and rebuild this team through the draft

Was always the most likely outcome.

Said a few times on here, he’s the best qb going into fa a month early with 7-8 teams desperate for a qb…,

He can break the bank if he wants

That makes it a lot more palatable.

I agree. He is still not ideal for me, however.

Or he could be signing with the Saints after he gets released? Lol. It never made sense to me for the Saints to trade for him.

Exactly. The trade would hurt the team he’d go to. Why do that if he can go there after being cut and not set the team back?

He's gonna get $45m/yr on open market and we'll toil away with QBs worse than him

If someone is gonna pay him more than Mahomes and josh Allen, more power to them.

I’ll take Teddy B for 5 million a year and see where it takes me. (Hopefully Allen being fired)

Unfortunately, I think our odds or getting him dropped like a rock today

Why? He ALWAYS had all the leverage to decide where he plays next. A team trading for him would have had to court him like a free agent anyway. It was not the like he and his agent were idiots and did not realize that they had a no-trade clause. What would he gain by letting one team dictate his direction and his contract. Why would he want to agree to lock into a team that the Raiders agreed to let visit with him?

That’s not the sense I got. I got the sense Underhill doesn’t think the Saints are interested in tanking or rebuilding. Right or wrong, they don’t feel like they’re that far away.

Agreed, I don't think Carr ever really intended on being traded, this was just a way to interview with teams before being cut.
