Some of this board is completely overlooking CY. He is going to thrive in Allen's defense. He will create a lot of pressure and chaos they may not show up "statistically" like it should.

We have all seen Carl take big leaps in the past 2 seasons. Especially last year when he became a starter.

So... what's their combined sack total?

Carl 11.5
Young 8.5

20 total combined

20 is possible. Then I imagine he splits next year. But for this year the Dline is looking up.
I can't wait to a Young Cam Bresee and Granderson rotation.

21.5 should be the goal between our top two edge rushing lineman.

14.0/7.5 ish.

Granderson had 8.5 sacks last year.
Young only has 8.5 sacks in his career.

Granderson is an average DE, Cam is a shell, Breese is promising, everyone else is ehh..

This is an average to below average defensive line.

he's has 16.5 sacks actually.

he really has not been healthy since his rookie year, where he had 7 sacks in 15 games.

The good thing about Granderson is that he has improved every year so far. No ceiling yet.

Double digits are a tough ask from guys who have never been there before

They got 16 combined last year in 1,002 pass rush snaps. With a sack rate of 16% they’d need 1,250 rash rush snaps to hit a combined 20

One, they would need to stay healthy. Two, they’d need to get more productive. I would take the under. It’s a win if they match their totals from last season

can't argue with your logic/numbers

I do think Carl can add at least 2 sacks to his total from last year. 3 more is a little more ambitious of me.

Health is a big issue with Young, but... If Young puts together the year he is hoping for on a 1 year deal then 8.5 sacks should be there for the taking.

With how much the defense is going to be on the field I predict 10-12 each.

But how much of that time will they be there trying to stop the offense from running out the clock? Not too many late game sack opportunities if the offense can't produce points

I think young has a big year. He looks really quick and powerful off the line. Granderson has improved every year and is just hitting his prime.

Still, there’s a reason he’s been traded and let go from other teams. Hopefully this prove it deal gets the best out of him. But he hasn’t shown much the last few years and his reps will be limited between Cam and Carl starting and us likely playing from behind on defense often.

If I had to put a number on it:

Granderson: 9.5
Young: 5

Total: 14.5

Sacks don’t have to come from the edge. If teams are focused on Granderson and Young, it wouldn’t surprise me if Cam and Bresee sneak through up the middle for a few. I think the more important stat is how many the entire DL get. And if Turner stays healthy, it looks like he may be able to give us a handful of meaningful reps. May not lead to many sacks of his own, but could help spelling Grand, Young, and Cam enough to where they come in more fresh and have better burst than they did last year when they barely came off the field.

And if Lat is healthy, with the addition of KoolAid and the hopeful development of Alontae, our nickel/dime packages could lead to more coverage sacks.

But like somebody else mentioned, if our offense sucks as bad as they appear to, not gonna be a whole lot of sack opportunities if we’re spotting teams 14-17 points early.
