The Saints' offensive line has plenty of potential, with four former first-round picks in the mix. The unit's best player may be the lone non-first-rounder, center Erik McCoy. He earned a 94.4 PFF overall grade in 2024 across only 293 snaps over seven games. Trevor Penning showed promising signs as a run blocker at right tackle last season, which can help him in his new left guard role.

New Orleans is set to start a third straight first-round draft pick at left tackle in 2025, with rookie Kelvin Banks Jr. getting the nod. If he lives up to his draft potential, the Saints' offensive line is immediately closer to the middle of the pack.

The line you see in preseason is not the same you'll see in the regular season because they have been holding McCoy out to manage his workload (and Penning missed the entire 2nd game). He makes a HUGE difference in the middle, making blitz calls and knowing where the help is needed.

But if he goes down again we have no one to effectively replace him, so the entire season will rely on his health.

Our tackles have been studs, so we just need to get the middle settled to have a shot.

The concern here is will that injury linger into the regular season, even if he does play.

Not only has McCoy not played in either preseason game... 2nd string center Will Clapp went down with a season ending injury after the 1st or 2nd play of the Chargers game

Simpkins has shown a good motor & a desire to murk anyone in an opposing uniform... there's a reason he's 3rd string... still needs development but there is a good foundation for him to grow but the move for the Jags center was needed when Clapp went down

It's definitely a concern because iirc its the same foot and injury that he has in his rookie season.

But on a positive note

Radunz looked solid in his place. Hopefully that was not just because my eyes were bulging out of my head watching Ruiz flounder around out there like blind hippopotamus trying to find the feeding trough.

I find it strange that people outside of the Saints think Fuaga wasnt that good. It was apparent to me that he is a stud, what am I missing?

That's pretty wild. Not a ringing endorsement of Loomis or the Saints' draft ability.

We were dominant on the line for two games until McCoy went out last year

Maybe because his grades were fairly mediocre. But when you consider he was a rookie, in a bad offense anchoring the left side, I think he’s been awesome.

He’s not overly strong or dominant with his upper body. He has really good feet, he sticks with his blocks and he doesn’t fall for any weird moves and he’s good at recovering when he loses the initial step. He rarely gets completely beat on a rep without at least slowing the edge down. His film against Myles Garrett was legit

He will be even better on the right side this year. Our O-line will be sneaky good this year if they stay healthy

This. We need to keep him in bubble wrap.
