What is that you disagree with and maybe I can clarify what I mean.

You referred to Acadiana and the greater NO area as being part of "South Louisiana" but say that Baton Rouge is not. You also said that you are speaking culturally only.

Culturally speaking, Acadiana and the greater NO area couldn't be further from each other. They are nothing alike. What exactly do you consider the "culture" of South Louisiana to be?

If they can both be separate but part of the whole, why can't Baton Rouge?

The way I have always seen it was the culture of South LA was south of I-10 and west of the Atchafalay- but should probably also include the Houma-Thibadaux area.

I see what you are saying. And to be honset I do not know. I am not trying to act as some officail on this, it has been in my expereince that South LA, was Acadiana, and New Orleans was New Orleans. Baton Rouge was never really seen as a part of South LA - not saying it is not, just preception.

But either way, you pointed out what I was trying to point out - that all these areas that PA tries to pit against Shreveport are all completely different in their own right. Basically that he had no idea waht he was talking about.

I guess what I want to know is:

By who? Who's perception?

I cannot give you a total count - I guess just people in general. My start would be my family - which hail from all 3 areas. My father is from South LA, mother from New Orleans and family from BR. The people they where around, grew up with, people in teh industry most of them worked in.

shite man- why do you care?

It's Louisiana. All towns in this state are crappy. The only reason people stay in BR is for LSU football. N.O. is a whole different story we don't need to get into. At least Shreveport has seasons and gets some cold and warm weather. Ok my point, Louisiana sucks.

Curiosity I guess. I have a completely different perception (also influenced by my family and those around me). I am from Ascension Parish (born, raised, still there) and consider BR to be South Louisiana. I find your argument to be lacking. That is all.

The argument was to PA about areas of LA. Not about my perception of South LA vs yours. By your notion I can find your argument lacking, but I view you it as your opinon not your argument.

well it doesnt help when our Fox affiliate plays Cowboys games. I would say most of the Shreveport Cowboy fans root for the Saints second though

Amen, it sucks for the Saints fan base up here to always get preempted by the Cowboys. Part of that is not b/c SP is Cowboy country, it is b/c these affiliates broadcast to a lot of East Texas and border cities. I would say out of native Louisianians, it is probably 60/40 Saints/Cows in SP, and if up here and a LSU fan, then at least 80/20 Saints/Cows.

I used to feel lucky when living further South to get the blacked-out Saints games out of the Alexandria station, while all the people South of 1-10 were SOL.

"Yeah, Monroe belongs to the Mississippi delta region, and Alexandria belongs to MS as well. The I-10/I-12 corridor is the economic nucleus of this state...that's the way it has been and always will be."

Paul,

If you want to have southern Louisiana pride, fine by me, but I don't understand the elitist attitude and hostility that you have toward central and north Louisiana. You can't call Shreveport poor- the economy is booming- and currently the city is ranked third in the nation only behind Los Angeles and New York in volume of film production. Millennium Films recently built a studio lot in Shreveport. That, coupled with the oil/gas exploration, has helped create several thousand new jobs.

As a Saints fan, I welcome any other Saints fan, be it from Alabama, Mississippi, Austin TX, or any other city or state. You're the same type of fan that believes that you can't be a "true" LSU fan unless you attended school there. I graduated from LSU, but I call total bullshite on that argument as well.

North part of La. has always been that way, it's a whole another world from South La., Cowboys will always be first there.

If Shreveport is sitting on the 4th largest gas deposit in the world like many geologists believe then the economic nucleus is going to shift north

I hate to butt into this conversation, but it has been going on all day. Personally I have never been to Shreveport, but all I can say is that if there are Saints fans there, WHO DAT!!! We love ya! And for the rest.....

I don't care how it is now . frick Shreveport!
I had the misfortune of growing up there....grade 3 through high school. That place is the fricking pits ...its not so much about the place itself as the people there....you can break it down into a gulf coast thing IMO....in Texas its Dallas people versus Houston people....Louisiana its south La. versus north.....the people living on the gulf coast are more friendly , down-to-earth and less clicquish and snotty. Give me Houston over Dallas all day every day , and South Louisiana versus the North every fricking time

frick Shreveport? frick you.

Don't be so pissed about the fact that you weren't popular and no one liked you in junior high. Sure, blame that on the S'port folk and not recognize the little turd you were.

My apologies for your crummy childhood, but look in the mirror rather than blaming a place.

Loser.

I don't fault anyone here for liking the Cowboys. I am a Saints fan, but I understand that Dallas is 3 hours away, while N.O. is 6. It's the New Orleans Saints, not Louisiana Saints, the same way it is the Dallas Cowboys, not Texas Cowboys.

You know not what you speak. The Saints are the overwhelming favorite in the Monroe/WM area.
