Alot of games the defense choked

Colston fumble costs us the game with Bears in 06

Niners game Drew had us the lead with less than 2 mins left and Jenkins let Vernon Davis own his arse down the field. Didn’t help triple G blitzed like an idiot every freaking down. Loss 100% on the defense

Seahawks, Roman Harpers turn to get owned giving up 3 tds I think and let beast mode go beast mode to win the game. Loss 100% on defense.

Minneapolis miracle, once again Drew had us the lead with less than a min in the game, everyone knows the rest. 100% on defense.

Rams game, even with the no call, Drew led us to a fg, defense holds and prevents the Rams from getting a fg before regulation ends, we win the game. On the defense again. ESP after seeing the Pats completely shut them out.

Vikings last year, Drew was spotty, and should have put more points up, but line played like shite, and we were at least tied and defense couldn’t hold it. I’d say 50/50 on the blame game.

The Bucs game, I’d say this the only one I can say the defense delivered and Drew was a big part of the loss but we all know he just doesn’t have the arm so it is what it is. And I think if Cooks doesn’t fumble, Drew doesn’t press and the other two ints never happen after. That fumble changed the entire complexity of the game...

Most of yiu are complete idiots or have really short memories if u think he’s not clutch. Lack of Defense really killed his prime years....really sad.

So every year a future HOF QB doesn't win a Superbowl it's because he choked? The success of Tom Brady and the Patriots over the years has really warped some people's views on what great is. In what way is a QB like Brees, who has a Super Bowl ring and almost every significant QB stat, a choker?

Drew Brees no doubt had a shite game. But he receives a ton of unfair criticism for being a choke artist. He is second to only Payton Manning in number of game winning drives (54 to 53). This despite years where his defense has consistently let him down.
From an article written in 2019 LINK
quote:

The answer to that second question is 21. Brees has retaken the lead 21 times in his Saints career on a go-ahead scoring drive, only to watch helplessly from the sidelines as his defenses cave under pressure and allow their opponents to surge back with their own salvo. That number includes the playoffs, and ties the total set by three other quarterbacks put with (or mistakenly above) Brees in discussions concerning “the greatest of all time.”

quote:

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has had to put up with this unique incompetence only four times in the 322 games he’s played in the NFL. Retired great Peyton Manning dealt with just six such answering-score comebacks from teams he put on the ropes throughout his 266-game career. Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers has had it the worst of the non-Brees bunch, watching his defense fold against 11 last-second efforts (out of 195 career games). Let’s reiterate that, to really drive the point home: Brady, Manning, and Rodgers have put their team ahead with a would-be game-winning drive only to lose anyway a combined 21 times in the 783 games they’ve played in the NFL, while Brees has found himself in the same situation 21 times in just 287 games. In other words, the combined defenses Brady, Manning, and Rodgers played with let them down in 2.7% of the games they’ve each played, while Brees has had to face his defense with a thousand-yard stare in 7.3% of their games together.

So, while this particular game or season isn’t illustrative of it, for so many years we lived or died based on Brees’ s performance. Has he choked some? Yeah, but the defense in years past did him absolutely no favors. We would have more than 1 Lombardi and wouldn’t even be having this discussion if he would have had the defense that Brady, Manning, or even Rodgers has been given during his prime.

Oh yeah!! Dogpile!!! This message board will have talked Drew out of Canton before long.

Just real excited to read more "You know Drew was never that good" threads from people who don't remember the 80's and 90's

Brees just doesn’t have the arm anymore. He will be missed but it’s time to move on.

Then if I remember right we had 2-3 other fumbles.

So Brees chocked in the game because the team had 3 fumbles? None of them were from Brees?

The Saints organization was awful minus a few years here and there before Brees. The only thing this fanbase should be is THANKFUL.

Outside of one game Brees chokes in the biggest moments. by maxxrajun70

Was it the Minnesota miracle game where he picked the #1 defense apart in the 2nd half to give us the lead with under a minute?

Or the SF game where he gave us the lead twice in the last 5 minutes only to have the D blow it twice

Or the Eagles playoff game where he led the game winning drive. Left no time on the clock in that one.

Even against Minny last year, he led a drive to tie it up and force OT. Would have had a great chance to win it in regulation if Kamara wouldn’t have fallen down backwards with no one around him

Or was it the Seattle loss in 2010 where the D gave up 40+ points?

The Saints under Brees has tied or taken the lead with under 2 minutes in to go in 4 of our last 5 playoff losses, with 3 of those having the lead.

Brees choked the last two years. He was pretty bad. But before that it was an uphill battle trying to keep up with our shitty defense allowing anything and everything.

Out his prime you're correct but in his prime you're wrong. After around 2014 or so Brees lost whatever clutch genes he had left. He had some amazing playoff performances before the peak with losses that were squarely on defense. I'm talking amazing performances against #1 defenses in the playoffs. Nobody remembers them because they were epic shite the beds by the defense.

He just lost his physical ability with age. He was limited. Can't really hold it against him. Should be bitching at Payton for taking almost 13 years into his tenure into NO before he finally got a good defense outside the 09 one.

I feel like you are letting the last 3 years cloud your view of Drew’s 20 year career.

In the last 3 years he hasn’t been able to make all the throws and it’s cost us against playoff caliber teams. Prior to that he was great. Hell in 2017 he lead us to a comeback win in Minny that Marcus Williams choked away.

1st and 10, and everyone knows that all the Saints need do is run the clock down and kick the FG. Drew changes the play from a run to a pass and throws the ball at Michael Thomas's feet. That lost the game because it then saved the clock. We all know about the no interference call, but Drew choked when he had to perform.
