everyone's a risk. you take chances in this high price game. you win some (brees, colston,pt) you lose some (grant/smith sullivan/david).

I understand your point, but PT was not really a risk. Guy wasn't drafted, comes in not making much money at all, there was no risk.

Why is everybody always talking about Grant and Smith? Do yall not understand that there lack of involvment had alot to do with stupid arse none blitzing Gary Gibbs. I say they both do great this year and all of yall are sucking there dicks.

I think we can sign these guys without cutting. Just back load it. There is no cap next year as of now. The Redskins only had like 9.1 million under the cap when F.A. started and they have had huge signs(7 years 100 million). And if we have to cut someone it wont be all three

We've gone through a laundry lists of excuses for these players. Star players don't need excuses, they get the job done.

Rams boards comments:

Would I like more INT's? Sure. Will he become a "shutdown corner" (such as they exist now in the NFL)? I don't know.
But he is a young, big, DB who is still on the rise. So unless the Rams have another option out there (like some other FA they are targeting for less $$), I'd go ahead and re-sign Bartell.

It shouldn't have come to this though. This is where you have to be proactive and find a way to keep this guy before he ever does hit the FA market.
Personally I would've tagged Bartell (even though it's more expensive) and took my chances with Atogwe hitting the FA market

Someone will wow Bartell with a deal, and the Rams probably have lost a top-tier CB

If Bartell is reasonably overpaid, we should match or pay a little more to retain him.
His price will not seem so big in 2-3 years.
If what was posted below is right and he is seeking $40 million over 5 years, then do it.

would be a huge loss for a team that is in rebuilding mode and short on good cb´s to begin with.
IMHO Rams must keep Bartell at any costs even if it means we have to let Torry go.
Long, Carriker,WW,Atogwe and Bartell are the backbone of a defense that has holes everywhere to start with. If we lose Bartell it would set the defense back big time.

overpaying a bit for Bartell is a good risk in the sense that he is still improving. So for the duration of a 5 year contract some team will be getting a player who is better than the 2008 Bartell, quite possibly a lot better.

Losing Bartell would be an awful start to the season.
Just pay up this time, folks, because this team has nobody else who can match up with Fitzgerald and other big receivers in the red zone. And, Bartell has his best years in front of him.

Yeah, but I think he has a point that they'll be much better this year assuming we improve the defensive backfield. Mediocre players can be pretty good with the right system and right support.

One question? Is he better than any of our other DB's?

Maybe our defensive backfield will be better with a pass rush. Chicken vs Egg concept. Either way, their play was not acceptable but yes, it should get better with a better coach.

most likely, but the fact that this question even has to be raised should raise some flags since he wants 6.5-7 million a year.

:shakeshead:

The fact that this question has to be rased means that somebody isn't looking the guy up and is looking to the board for validation. The only flag that should be raised here is the "welcome to New Orleans" flag.

The dude is a beast. He was the only CB in the league last year to shut down Larry Fitzgerald.
