Offensive line play is so bad it is kind of impressive

We can rightfully shite on Allen, Pete, and Carr all we want, but the absolute dumpster fire of an offensive line is headscratchingly crazy. The Saints have not only prioritized lineman with their high draft picks, but they have already extended 4 out of 5 of their starters. Our line (minus Hurst who was signed to be a swing tackle) are all top 50 picks, drafted by the Saints, and compensated as above average players at their positions (minus Penning who is on a rookie contract):
Trevor Penning - 1st round, pick 19 (2022) - $3.5 mil per year
Andrus Peat - 1st Round, pick 13 (2015) - $11 mil per year
Erik McCoy - 2nd round, pick 48 (2019) - $13 mil per year
Caeser Ruiz - 1st Round, Pick 24 (2020) - $11 mil per year
Ryan Ramczyk - 1st Round, Pick 32 (2017) - $19 mil per year
If you didn't know anything about the Saints, you would think every player was an undrafted rookie or washed journeyman the way they are playing. I have never seen a collective line that is completely incapable of picking up a blitz. They are routinely losing one on one battles and seem like they have never seen a delayed rush or a stunt in their entire lives.

Completely agree with you 100% on all these points. However, I think there's two factors impacting the OL play.
First, you can mask bad OL play by getting the ball out relatively quickly. For some reason, we do not check into hot routes when the defense decides to show heavy blitz. We have Mr. Quick Slant in MT13 but we never seem to call it. That would force the defense to get out of a heavy blitz set and open up running lanes, and, theoretically, allow for longer routes time to develop.
Second, most importantly, I think our OL coaching has been awful. At one point, Doug Marrone was a solid OL coach and helped develop great linemen. But I think his time has passed as we do have all this talent on the line but is heavily inconsistent at best and absolute garbage at worst. I don't understand how you cannot teach staying at home with line protection. We have several moments where the line parts like the Red Sea after a stunt. Just awful preparation, but probably consistent with our current staff.

After Kamara’s comments yesterday, I think we’re starting to get a clearer picture on this teams’ issues. It seems to start with preparation and accountability.

The audible on 3rd down, where Carr checked into a run. The LG just let the guy standing right in front of him have a direct path to AK. No stunts just immediately turned away.

This is absolutely bizarre. One of the "selling features" to Carr was they liked his ability to take control of an offense and making adjustments at the line. Apparently, he was not allowed to do this in McDaniels' offense, because McDaniels was such a control freak. Yet, like you said, we never have these routes called. Does MT have a clause in his contract that he doesn't run slants anymore because he hated being called slant boy? Why is the RB out of the backfield the only safety valve the QB is allowed to have?

Our issues are either the OL coach is terrible and needs to go or scouting department is terrible and needs to go.

I remember this, just let the guy in front off him go untouched and he blew the play up.
That’s high school level blown assignments

Yep. And you jump on this board and most of the posters are bashing Carr for checking into that play because he knew the RG would blow his assignment.
Edit: Looked at the play and right before they snap the ball, if the LG puts a hat on the DT, AK has a 1-on-1 with #53 who was 4 yards up field (3rd & 3) and doesn't start moving up until AK has the ball. Probably looking at a modest gain 4th & 1 or 2, as opposed to 4th & 4. If AK wins that battle, he's walking into the endzone as the closest DB is following Shaheed on an out and the safety drifted to the other side on Olave.
