NFL Power Rankings: Post-free agency status reports

The biggest moves of free agency have passed through the NFL, changing the outlook for teams across the league. So it’s only fair that ESPN updated its NFL power rankings to recognize that, relying on ballots from its 80-plus ‘power panel’ of writers, editors, and television personalities. And the results demoted both of the teams that reached Super Bowl LIII: the victorious New England Patriots fell all the way to third place, and the Los Angeles Rams (who scored just three points in last year’s championship game) rank second-best. Both of those teams trail the New Orleans Saints.
Here are some thoughts from Mike Triplett, who covers the Saints for ESPN Nation: Three-words-or-less description: Replay last season. The Saints did just about everything right in 2018 — right up until the non-call that helped to keep them out of the Super Bowl and led to groundbreaking replay rule changes. It’s a lot to ask them to do it all again and secure the NFC’s No. 1 seed, especially with Drew Brees now 40 years old, but they still have one of the NFL’s most talented rosters.
The gulf between the Saints and their NFC South rivals is wide. The Atlanta Falcons are in the middle of the pack at 17, and the Carolina Panthers right there with them at 18. Either team coming short of a playoff run this year could signal the end of the road for Falcons head coach Dan Quinn or Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are even more overlooked at 29. New head coach Bruce Arians has his work cut out for him.
As for the Saints, this expectation is well-earned. They’ve made deep playoff pushes in two consecutive years, with one miracle play costing them in 2017 and a hideous officiating error striking them in 2018. Including the playoffs, this Saints team has won 26 of its last 36 games. They’re every inch a Super Bowl contender, and winning that title is their mission in 2019, maybe more so than any other team.

I think this was posted before CJ Anderson went to the Lions too. There's a lot of angst in local L.A. sports news here over Gurley's arthritis issues. If they don't have a proven backup, that's not a great place for them to be with a QB who relies on a highly functional running game.

Espn as a whole is still trash, but they have a few good "bloggers" and Tripp is one of them.
Not quite as good as he was at the height of his TP career, but still pretty good.

Definitely seems high even though the potential is there.
Cowboys are way too high. That defense played above it's level last year in a few games, and after the Rams absolutely exposed their Dline stunts others will definitely take notice.
Dallas is going to have to go back to the drawing board or tone down the amount of stunts they do.

They were 7-8-1 last year with a 5-2 finish. I don’t think it’s that crazy considering the offseason they had. They added more than just OBJ.

I know, that's why i said the potential is there.
But it's Cle, and they have a new head coach and will have a new defensive scheme without GW. The defense was carrying them the last few years until Mayfield came on a bit.

Also have to be concerned with Lawrence and the contract and then potential suspension of Gregory.

12 teams make the playoffs and usually the wildcard is 9-7 or 10-6. Is it that far fetched that they’ll be around that with a chance to win the division since no one knows what Pittsburgh is gonna do?

Yup. Didn't want to get into too much detail, and of course that offense is zek or bust so I didn't bother touching that side.

I don’t know how else I can state it. I plainly said the potential is there. But this is Cle, not GB trying to bounce back.
If Cle had a track record of success or did better last year I wouldn't bat an eye with them being top 10. And they clearly have the potential to get 10-11 wins, especially in that division.

I’m not buying it. I hate to say it but I think Drew falls off a cliff this year
