Rooney rule. If you interview and don’t hire me it’s racism. If you interview several people and hire the minority, just because he’s a minority, it’s racism, as well. Bottom line, teams want the best coach, period. If Saints were serious about hiring Flores he committed a Kraperdick suicide. Saints don’t want to hire a head coach that will sue them if he is fired year(s) later. He is actually making situation worse for other minority candidates if hiring teams fear retaliation.

The Rooney Rule was created to hold off the threat of lawsuits 20 years ago.

It's not like they're hiring them anyway

It was designed to give people a chance. It’s fascinating that people get their panties in a bunch over a rule to interview black candidates but shrug when so many coaches get their start because of nepotism. I’m sure all the guys that got their first job because of their dad were really just the best candidates.

What if there was a rule that each team had to have a white CB, WR, or any position for that matter?? When you build a team (even a company) you want the best person regardless of race. You shouldn’t be forced to interview someone because of their race.

Absolutely not correct. African Americans comprise of approx 65% of the NFL players yet comprise less than 3% of coaches and general mangers is illogical from a realistic perspective. Racism still exist in society today and if one feels that he/she was impacted by unfair hiring practices they should question the unfair practice in order to eradicate it.

This is why more black coaches arent hired.

If you fire them for any reason (winless season, whatever), you're getting sued and a shitload of bad PR.

This makes black coaches unhirable from the perspective of many owners.

So then to counter that, the white football player who doesn't make a team/get drafted/get playtime over a black player should question that practice of wanting the best player to play?

Hello double standard

How many players are actually from Africa, probably very few so to call yourself anything other than American if you were born here is incorrect. I don't call myself an Italian/Irish/English American. Racism exist because people still talk about it and use it for a political stance, and there are exceptions racism don't have a color there are racist people in all shades of skin but they are so few these days you wouldn't notice. Problem with society is accountability for ones actions, these people blame everyone but themselves for their bad choices.

Please indicate three occasions of which African American coaches made such assertions? I promise you, you're just talking BS with zero facts.

There's an excellent interview with Morgan Freeman who makes this exact point with a white guy who's interviewing him.

Freeman tells the guy interviewing him I don't call you a white american, lets just call each other americans

That's not really how it works man. I call out racist shite when I think its there, but I think this is just front offices being forced to follow the rules.

There isn't a single white CB in the NFL, & white people don't say anything b/c it is what it is.

Black guys have been given plenty of opportunities as head coaches & FO roles. There's a reason that Mike Tomlin is still a head coach.

Flores might have been treated a little unfairly, but that's b/c teams were forced to give him an interview without actually having any interest in him.

I think Flores is head coach material, but he handled this about as bad as possible. The fact that he called it 'systemic racism' is not very smart on his part.

Hiring Flores would be kind of a great move right now, especially for us. Good coach and a way to say frick the nfl.

Yeah that would be real fricking brilliant, we just had a coach that Goodell couldn't stand, and you want to hire another one that's about to sue his arse. Yeah that's real fricking brilliant idea.

How many black coaches have been fired and sued? I think this is the only one that I recall. If you can win as a head coach you usually have a job unless you ar just a giant personality conflict.
