Jameis Winston is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL and receiving some interest ahead of NFL free agency.

The New Orleans Saints have interest in re-signing Winston ahead of the 2022 season. We also are learning that the Washington Commanders have shown interest in Winston.

Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday night that Washington has taken a long look at Winston.

Washington’s interest in Winston is understandable.

First off, the Commanders are desperate for a quarterback and have gone to great lengths to see if they could pry one loose. They were unsuccessful in their attempts to get Russell Wilson. Their defense is solid, but they badly need an upgrade at QB in order to compete in the winnable NFC East.

Many of Washington’s QB targets have been unrealistic. However, Winston is much more attainable. He isn’t a clear upgrade for many teams, so his market will be more limited.

Winston went 5-2 and passed for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns in seven starts last season for the Saints. Would he choose to leave New Orleans for Washington? Maybe if the price were right.

He’s played the last couple years on small contracts.

If a team comes and offers him money… I wouldn’t blame him on leaving

I'm probably biased but I would much rather sign with the Saints than the Commies. That just seems like an absolutely miserable organization.

Seems to be playing out well for us.

Pittsburgh may be the team to watch out for now.

Makes sense. Going into the season with Drew Lock is not ideal.

I can see them just going the cheap route and signing someone like Teddy.

Looks like Washington is no longer looking for Jameis. They just traded for Wentz.

What bidding war? His options are drying up

Saw that Indy may look at Jimmy G. Please let that happen.

Saw that Pitt is actively discussing Watson.

Honestly, think Jameis bets on himself and signs another 1 year deal. About 15 million imo.

I wouldn't pay him a big contract. We've seen how Bridgewater turned out after the Saints made him somewhat respectable. Plus if it's Washington that's another team above us no longer looking for a draft QB.

I don't recommend overpaying for Winston but the market will dry up quickly between now and the draft so he's going to be quite a bit more expensive.

Something tells me there is nowhere else JW would rather be.
He knows the system the team and the city.

Taking bigger money into a even bigger city with a new system and coaches just ramps up the pressure and he's coming off season ending surgery.

My guess is he will get a respectful offer from the Saints and load it up with further incentives like huge payouts for Div title and making the playoffs.

I know id take less to avoid having to play on Pittsburgh's field. That thing is a shithole.
