John Gilliam ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown at Tulane Stadium. However, the Rams would win, 27-13.

Most on this board have no idea who John Gilliam is.

I was there with my cousin in the End zone that Gilliam ran to!
Glorious!
Then 40 odd years in the wilderness…..

can't believe in the 60s/70s the NFL teams designed the end zones almost like every game was a Super Bowl (meaning both teams had an end zone design for every game)

it's 1 area of the NFL they've gotten lazier in

in fact... Tulane Stadium painted each team's helmet at the 40 yard line on the side of the field their end zone design was

when you look at the video of Tom Dempsey lining up the 63 yd FG to beat the Lions... between the LOS and where Dempsey & the holder are is the image of the Lions helmet (he was on the side of the field with the Lions designs kicking towards the side with the Saints designs)

They should have preserved the sugar cane etchings on the facade, and incorporated them into Yulman.

Caught the run back before we headed to the dove field. Tough times and lots of head coaches would ensue.

The tall building is Butler Hall. Women's dorm back then.

Lower right is Phelps.
