Hahahahaha the Saints are towards the bottom of the list of teams potentially moving cities.

That may be. But when Gayle's nephews or cousins or whomever instantly becomes the owner of a billion dollar franchise, plus cities with no team handing them bags and bags of money, do you honestly think that will be the case?

Is it ever lost on y'all that Mercedes jetted on us for the new stadium in Atlanta?

Mercedes Benz's US headquarters are also in Atlanta so that little detail f**ks up your argument.

quote:

It's basically the Kingdome in Seattle (opened in 1976, demolished in 2000), it's the Silverdome (opened in 1975, Lions left it in 2001), it's the Metrodome (opened 1982, Vikings left in 2013). It's the RCA dome (opened 1984, Colts left in 2007)... and it very possibly could become like the dome in St Louis that the Rams left in 2015.

All of those domes were multipurpose domes that had a seating capacity < 68,0000 and they did not have the square footage to be upgraded and/or expanded, or have additional luxury suites and premium seating areas which is why they had to be replaced. The only stadium that could have been upgraded was the Georgia Dome, and the main reason it was replaced because Arthur Blank wanted to keep up with Jerry Jones and that is it. The Superdome was originally built as a multipurpose dome but it was built with football as its main sport unlike the KingDome and Metrodome and it was built with enough square footage to make renovations feasible.

re: Mercedes naming rights with Superdome officially done today, signage taken down
The deal with Mercedes and Atlanta had some questionable decision making since it was acknowledged that they overbid and the decision maker for MB left to work for Arthur Blank.

New Orleans isn’t getting a new stadium because there are too many moving parts. Before Mr. B died, the Oakwood Mall was considered to be possible location for your next stadium with its accessibility to downtown. That all died with him.

If you build a new stadium, it would likely have to be in the existing footprint of the Superdome because the city isn’t getting F500 companies to flock here and build in what would be a crater. So the team would be playing in Baton Rouge for 3-4 years. That’s out the window. The dome can continue to withstand new stadiums because in reality only 12-15 will have retractable roofs. What attracts the big events is proximity, weather and hotel accommodations. There are only about 8 of those that can handle this and they’re all in rotation.
