Marques Colston Appreciation Thread

I’ve been watching old highlights, and damn if he’s not solid. I know he dropped some critical balls, but my god, he and Brees had a symmetry. Brees’s accuracy is also way underrated.

Behind Brees, I would put Pierre Thomas a close second. That dude gave 100 every play. Screen master.

Very good player but not a Thomas or Horn. Its insane how much Brees gets downplayed because people want him to be the best receiver in team history. It’s easily one of the other two they got numbers with anybody. Horn especially 37 catches on only 61 targets with brees for 720 yards.

Colston was better than Horn and pretty similar to Michael Thomas.

If I were to write a paragraph about Colston dropped passes would not be included. Geez

Not many.

He had Drew Brees his whole career.
I made a great example of horn’s numbers in 1 year with Brees. He was getting 1300/1400 with aaron brooks just imagine what he’d do with a great QB.
Thomas is thomas with anyone.

If you are remembering dropped passes, it's because you are trying to find something to be critical about. He did have an issue with some drops when he came back after his thumb surgery, and he may have dropped 1 or 2 in critical moments. But those would have been few & far between and would only come into play because he was relied on so much in critical moments, that a few drops would happen, statistically speaking.

Horn was at the wrong part of his career when Brees came to town. mid-30s put him right at that age when the game starts slipping away. Has a great opportunity with Payton/Brees coming to town but it never really clicked with him in New Orleans. Age, Payton's 1st personal grudge, couldn't grasp the playbook...?
Then he leaves for Atl in the offseason and has to deal with Joey Harrington, Redman & Leftwich for that 1 year between Vick & Ryan

61 targets
37 catches
679 yards
18.4 yards per catch
11.1 yards per target
In only 10 games
His highest success rate of his career at 60%
This literally proves he would’ve been an all pro player with Brees and a few years younger.. with 29 more targets he reaches 1000 yards at that rate

One of the bigger equalizers is "why only 10 games". Those leg injuries started eating away at the major ability any team needs from its players, availability. He missed over 1/3rd of the year in 2006, which appears was a contract year (don't recall if he as a FA or was cut).
Those YPC & YPT were definitely aided with the addition of Brees, Reggie & Colston taking some of the pressure off of him
Averaged 6.1 targets a game. Stays healthy and he's looking at another 37 more targets. Damn shame Horn wasn't about 5 years younger

Bro even if it wasn’t “aided” he already showed he can get 1300+ consistently so you have to already know and assume he’d do better with an elite qb.
What point were you trying to make here?

Having a conversation about what could have been if we had prime Horn with prime Brees and pointing out that those leg injuries held Horn back.
Why is it when someone doesn’t agree with you 100% you feel the need to attack or get extremely defensive

So when talking about what he could’ve been with Brees we start and stop with the 36 year old version and not the pro bowl version?
