I could see edwards playing a little end .
Think ziggy s price might be too high.
He is listed at 280 and played about 230snaps last year

Great analysis.

he is a rotational lineman that is only 25 years old and has a 2nd round pedigree.
we also have one of the best DL coaches in the league in terms of developing players if you go back to his track record at NC State.
for the low end salary it is low risk/high reward.
no one is saying he is a needle mover but there is upside with the signing.

He's a DT for us. He's not gonna play DE, not sure why that keeps making the rounds so much

Edwards is only 280ish, so not really an interior guy in a 4-3
As said he seems like the Okafor replacement. Provides a bit of pass rush and very solid run defense, giving us a good rotation at DE.
Jordan, Edwards, and Davenport all play the run real well, so if Davenport keeps developing as a pass rusher that will be a great trio.
This goes well with a temporary rotation of Onyemata, Brown, and Stallworth on the inside, and they showed last year they'll throw Davenport inside on pass downs (and isn't a liability if they run instead). And then when Rankins gets healthy we'll have a very good inside rotation to pair with the outside.

280 is not a DT in a 4-3. He was the "small end" in a 3-4, playing the role Jordan usually plays.
The big end in a 3-4 is the one that would translate to a 3 tech DT. That was not Edwards.
To play DT in a 4-3 you want a guy at minimum 290 lbs., and that's only if he's really strong. You need guys that can anchor in the middle against much heavier guards and centers (who tend to weigh at least 315).

Meh. He's not a run stuffer but I'm not calling him a speed rusher either. Probably rotate in as the passing down interior rush guy

No he's not a speed rusher. He's like Cam in the role he'll play. He's a bigger end in a 4-3, but the small end in a 3-4. Both tend to play over the RT (sometimes head up, others shaded slightly inside or out).
The OLB in a 3-4 is the speed rusher (think Galette when we played 3-4). This is the same as a small end in a 4-3. They tend to play outside the LT.
He'll play both ends with us in a rotation, but I only see him inside on passing downs like we did with Davenport and have done with Jordan in the past.
He's definitely not a DT in a base defense or on run downs.

Hendrickson still has a chance to contribute as well.
shite, he should be our starter, IMO....

I like all the differing opinion lol
He's an interior rusher
He's a run stuffer
He's a big 4-3 end
It'll be interesting to see how he actually is used.

I agree. I honestly think that we brought him in to stop the run at DE & provide a pass rush on the interior.
I really like the signing. I don't think he'll be as good of a pass rusher as Okafor, but I wouldn't be surprised if his run support was just as good or better. 280 pounds is a big DE in a 4-3...I wouldn't be surprised if he actually started at DE to stop the run, then slide inside to rush from the interior.
He should be legit at 1 or 2 things. The only thing that I'm sure of is...he'll be a part of the rotation. The thing that I like the most is his contract.

Maybe he spells Cam some?

I feel like he will play d tackle on rush downs and play some end.
Maybe ansah s price was 2 high but this guy is set going to play some d tackle

He played as a rush tackle most of last year.
Davenport should start at end.
Nick farley was about 290 and they could tell him to add a few pounds.
He was listed at 281

Well if ziggy is asking for Mars then yes.
Posted on 3/15/19 at 6:31 pm to GMoney2600
Yup. We have shored up the run D in the middle and Edwards gives some 3rd down pass rush ability from interior and the edge.

You were way wrong on this one.
The dc of the saints told him he would play 3 tech d tackle
