Pshhhhh with the way Kamara preformed last year we shouldn’t have even wasted a third on this guy. More like a 5th rounder, amirite?

Nah, we just have brains and know he's a small school player that hasn't gotten many reps in practice due to injury and only played in two preseason games. He isn't supposed to be a finished project but he's looked promising.

Amen! You hit it on the head. His coaching at that level may not had been top notch. But to say he is 3rd round pick is crazy. Like meth smoking good.

Being slow and last off the ball when you were drafted to be a situational pass rusher your first year? Not what I would call looking promising.

I think what he's getting at is that people on this board have been acting like he's played like jj watt in his first two preseason games which he has not

He’s not slow off the ball, he’s slow to diagnose. Like someone else said on obvious passing downs he’s fine. He will get more comfortable with his assignments and will be even better than he has been so far.

Davenport will be fine, maybe special.
At the time I typed this you had 69 downvotes and not one upvote. Not sure I have ever seen that...

He definitely is extremely slow to respond to snap, but he makes up for it with out of this world athleticism.

My one concern is that, I'm not really sure if reaction to snap is something you can develop; can't say I've ever watched anyone else and been like, "damn he is always the last one to move;" but yet he still gets to QB.

Mostly before davenport; I've only really noticed when people are fast off the ball. MY dad mentioned to me during the game that he was one of the slowest guys off the snap; and once I started paying attention, it is undeniable.

What does this say about Davenport the overall player? I'm not sure, but that doesn't change the fact on this certain variable.

Him looking slow off the ball definitely doesn’t have to do with the fact he played standing up in college or that’s he’s battling through a groIN injury all camp and had his whole leg wrapped up after the game. Guy is just a terrible ATHLETE

Let’s be real here. He’s not a Saints fan. He’s trolling to get a rise out of the board. Anyone who actually follows football knows that Davenport was out 3 weeks and has only been practicing for the last week and a half.

From having only practiced that limited amount of time he has flashed promise. Getting timing and rhythm with the snap is something that comes with time, practice and game experience, it isn’t something that every lineman has to begin with, especially for one who has limited practice time. The guy isn’t going to be Reggie White from jump. But he has made nice plays. Get over it

Of course you can improve reaction time.

The OP was an opinion.

This is a fact.

Who did you want to take in the 1st round? Just so we can compare at the end of the year.

Slow reaction time could be a lot of things. He wasn’t slow off the snap in college. It could be entirely possible that Nielsen is teaching him different things to key in on to get a faster reaction eventually, but it might be different keys than what he’s used to, and he could still be adjusting to it.

Hell, he’s probably still getting used to being in a 3-point stance, something he very rarely did at UTSA
