I think it was a lateral at best, but I don't think they should take the record away. The "pass" was made during the first half. He could have easily thrown for the record if he played another series.

Then he should have. All season he was throwing bombs up 17+ points in the 4th qtr. One more wouldn't have hurt

so do you have an irrational love for Peyton Manning or an irrational hatred for Drew Brees?

Never seen a record chaser like him. Going to be so funny when he is knocked out without even a playoff win

Sure he could have passed for more but he didn't. Every game has these adjustments and this one is no difference. If he wanted the record he should have beaten it by more then one yard.

He actually sat out the last game the year he broke Marino's passing TD record. He could have had more than 49. Then Brady played all throughout blowouts and all of his last game just trying to run the score up as much as possible to get 50.

This season he sat at the half in a game that the Broncos actually had to win even though he only had the record by 1 yard and a stat correction was very possible. Brees was bombing away in the 4th quarter of a game the Saints were winning by like 24+ points the year he broke the yardage record

this. every fantasy players knows that if you are up by a point going into monday night you cant sit a defense for fear of negative scoring because there's a good chance that a stat correction on wed could frick you

Brees sat early in a lot of games that year. Until yesterday manning hasn't exited the game once despite some very lopsided scores

I don't think that's accurate. He sat the entire 4th quarter of the Eagles game. There could have been others earlier in the season as well, that's just the one that stands out to me at the moment.

I wasn't trying to disparage Brees' yardage mark with that comment either. Just saying that Peyton didn't needlessly record chase any more than the other two, definitely less when compared to Brady

Yeah, the eagles game. At the time I calculated Brees sat for 6 quarters in 2011 not to mention the time he could've been bombing away but we were grinding it out

Manning has been chasing both marks for sure. It kind of irks me that he disparaged the yardage mark but sat when he had it by one yard

Damn, if that is accurate it's insane. Brees might have thrown 700 passes and about 5,700 yards without sitting

I think it's 5 1/2

And I don't think record chasing is a bad thing. I get pissed when drew and Sean do not do it. Like when drew easily had his seventh TD in the opener against the lions, it was called back and Brees elected to run it 2 or 3 times - 2009

Easily could've had 8 in that game

It does irk me that Peyton is FOS when he basically said it didn't mean shite.

Dumbest argument ever. HE DIDN'T!!! Statistics do not rely on assumptions, that's why they are statistics.

He could've also blown out his knee on the next series and Denver been fricked for the playoffs.

doesn't the NFL change stats all the time after the fact? I remember it costing me a fantasy game one year when they took away a sack I think. So why would they not change this if it is obvious lateral and run not forward pass.

I know we have lots of bias but I mean come on its simple the pass went backwards manning threw it at the 49 1/2 yard line and the ball was caught at the 48

take off 7 brees holds on to record at-least one more year.
