Larry Holder ? @LHolderCBS Close @sterling_john I've been told the Saints aren't done in free agency on defense.

Thought this was interesting. Also comes at the same time as this:
quote:

[Osi]Umenyiora, who has fought with the Giants about renegotiating his contract for most of the last few years, told Rock that a team trading for him wouldn’t need to redo his contract.

quote:

Umenyiora, something he clearly knows, and making his willingness to play under his current deal — a reasonable $3.975 million for this season — is a good way to generate some interest.

quote:

. While Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network thinks “things could get interesting” if someone offers a third-round pick, the Giants weren’t willing to part with Umenyiora for a second-round pick last summer. It’s a different time, obviously, and the Giants might feel like they’re tired of the constant drama that Umenyiora brings to the table, but he’s a valuable part of their defense and they probably aren’t feeling too much pressure to let him go.

Hopefully it's a CB. We are pretty thin right now. What free agent CBs are left?

We need to resign Brees. Screw a 32 year old DE right now...

Actually, I'm not even sure Brees would hit our cap more than he already is with the franchise tag.

Give Drew his 23 million a year and be done with it Saints. This is how inflation works...arguably the best player at his position gets to be highest paid at his position when contract is up. Pay the man.

From what's been reported, a deal with Brees would actually be a lower cap hit.

Is anyone else amazed that we still have almost 4 mil in cap room after the Tag price increase to 16 mil AND all our FA acquisitions?

Our FO rules.

Though this news would normally initiate a fap session at my current location......I'm starting to wonder about the Brees situation and why we would even venture into signing anyone else before him.

I doubt we'd be signing anymore starters, just rational players. It seems people forget about depth sometimes.

I'd say we're pretty good depth wise everywhere but CB and DT, but there aren't really any decent starters out there in FA right now.

I'd love Osi, but with no first or second round picks this year, I don't think that is a trade we can make for a likely one year rental.

Good to see we have $4m+ left in cap space. We can free up as much as $5m more with Ellis.

4th round maybe, but they can forget about a 3rd round.

I would give a 4th for Osi. It makes sense considering the rumors of Will Smith being suspended.

Yeremiah Bell would make sense with a Harper suspension.

by all means give up a 3rd for Osi.

He is still dominant in the pass rush at times.
He's a starter. and it's cheap.

why gamble on a 3rd when you get a legit pass rushing DE?

unless you just don't think he has anything left in the tank.

Because he's getting older and is a FA next season.

If its only the 4ish mil that's be a great deal for a 3rd or 4th ImO. We have pretty much no pass rush right now outside of Will Smith who will probably be suspended.
And yeah, I thought I heard a deal with Drew would lower the cap hit. Which also begs the question why the hell isn't he signed yet.

That's surprising, honestly. His injuries must be bad because when he isn't injured, hell of a S...

They are not done once the players get punishment there be room to wiggle some good players. yeremiah bell if harper gets suspended would be a good pick up.
