Kellen Moore would be a GOOD hire

I am currently on the boat of negativity with this organization and ultimately (no matter what coach is hired) believe Loomis and co need to go for the Saints to move forward.

But hiring Kellen Moore after all that has happened this offseason so far would be a fantastic hire. He is currently leading an offense to the Super Bowl and looking damn good doing it. Frankly, he has coached way better than Joe Brady has and it is not close.

This would give me a little bit of hope for the future and at least inspire me some that things are getting better. Let's be real too, he is (on the surface) a better hire than some of the coaches this cycle. Not saying I am not frustrated with this organization, but I am also not going to admit my exciment if Kellen Moore was the choice.

I'd be fine with Moore, but I prefer MM. I think MM is a safer bet to draft well, and this is my main concern the next 2 seasons

Moore is the closest to 2006 Payton that we could hope for.

Moore is great OC. He was hired from a great organization. Maybe, this is where Saints should focus on.

I think Moore would be a better hire than we were expecting.

I was expecting the absolute dregs of the NFL.

We were once a proud organization, now we have turned into a desperate bunch of people wanting anybody with an inch of success. Kellen Moore wasn't even a name a week ago, not to mention he really wanted the Dallas job. If he does get hired how long before Jerry comes calling. Hire someone who wants to be here. Come on down Anthony Weaver.

Him taking the job would likely signal a want to be here.

Jerry can come calling all he wants if Moore is under contract. It also means he's doing well as a HC.

With everything we've given the Eagles, it's only fair we take their OC

Is he though?

He was OC for cowboys. Their offense got better when McCarthy fired him and took over play calling.

He was at Chargers for one year, their offense was terrible and Justin Hebert regressed.

He then went to the Eagles. Jalen Hurts looks the worst he has in the last couple years, but Saquon ran for 2k yards and their offense is absolutely STACKED with talent.

He's never had the pleasure of calling plays for a team that didn't have pro bowlers throwing the ball, running the ball, and receiving the ball.

He will bomb, which is great. Bc thats what we need to do is fricking tank for 2 years and reset

Just curious: if he’s a great hire why hasn’t anyone else taken him off the board?

It really won’t matter though as long as Loomis is still around.

He sucked in Dallas and LA

He’d be a head coach under contract.

Jerry literally had an open job a couple of days ago. If he wanted to come calling there was no better time.

Jerry also doesn’t exactly have a ton of clout these days.

His offenses in Dallas were literally towards the top of the NFL for most of his tenure. Sometimes even without the starting qb. Did you just make up him “sucking?”

quote:

Here are some of Kellen Moore's offensive rankings by year as an offensive coordinator

(OC): 2019: Moore's first season as OC for the Dallas Cowboys, the team ranked first in total yards and passing yards per game.

2020: The Cowboys ranked 14th in total yards and 17th in points per game.

2021: The Cowboys ranked first in total yards and points per game.

2022: The Cowboys ranked 11th in total yards and 3rd in points per game.

Like I’ll take that 100/100x over a guy who was Mahomes buddy when he was a rookie

What do we do if Kellen is like "Nah, I'll just stay here in Philly."

Who's next?

Not to mention Staley was the issue in LA, not Moore.

Who the hell would actually be a success under Brandon Staley.

Objectively, there's almost zero chance the next coach is successful due to the realities we face with an aging roster combined with the salary cap problems we face.

I guess people just need to pretend that's not the case.

I'm of the opinion that this hire is meaningless.

It's not meaningless at all. 4 top 100 picks is huge. We will most likely have another top 10 next season. This coach will have a big say in those picks

I am as down on the Saints as anyone, and I agree in the short term we will not have success, and I also agree that with Loomis around its an uphill battle.

But we have also seen so called doomed situations turn around quickly with the right HC (and QB).

Moore would be a better hire than I expected this cycle. That doesn't mean it'll work out.

The reality is this is a 2-3 year hire. We are one year away from contracts getting off the books and the ability to make signings while finally being cap compliant.

So no, this hire is not meaningless. If you get Kellen Moore and can use this year as a bridge year to get his scheme, philosophy, and coaches in the door, hopefully you can compete and start bringing more players in, in 2026 when you have the cap.

We won't have the cap in 2026. I don't think we will have cap room in 2027 either.
