In 20 years as a college head coach, Urban Meyer has run one of the most explosive offensive systems in the nation. In that time, he has accompanied 5 of his QB's to NY as Heisman finalists, winning the award twice. Urban has coached 4 All American QB's and 2 Big 10 All Decade QB's. He coached or recruited 5 first round NFL QB's. Yet the only true Meyer product to have ever sniffed a pro bowl in the NFL is Alex Smith. The two best QB's he ever recruited; Joe Burrow and Cam Newton, were thrown away like garbage and went on to become probably the two greatest college QBs to ever play the game in other coaches' systems.
I'm sure Justin is a nice kid. I'm sure he's mega smart and a top tier athlete, but I don't want this staff taking that gamble.

What does Urban Meyer have to do with Justin Fields?

It’s his system- a very, veerrrry QB friendly system.
It would be like drafting a Mike Leach QB or a Chip Kelly QB.
Too risky in round 1 or 2 in my view.

He said that everybody in his family outgrew it too. I’m not sure when the last time he had an issue was. But it sounds like it shouldn’t have any impact on him playing football.

My nephew had it with tremors/seizures as early as 3 y/o. Took a daily regimen of Tegretol for years and by the time he was 15, no symptoms have ever reappeared since. He is now 30.
Even if Fields is currently dealing w/seizures, about all it would affect a team is if he were driving and crashed his car & injured/killed himself. That's easily remedied with catching rides, as most epileptics do.
It also wouldn't affect his play on the field. Hell, a football helmet and soft grass may arguably be the safest place on earth if your head started bouncing on the ground.

It’s one thing to evaluate players individually and point to reasons they will succeed or struggle. It’s another thing to do this based off other college qbs that happened to play for the same college or coach, but individually have different character and skillsets.
Think about all the QB’s that rolled through Texas Tech and put up insane numbers. If you would’ve held Texas Tech’s system and previous nfl failures against Mahomes, that ultimately would have been a huge mistake.
I honestly don’t think anyone expected any of the QB’s Urban had to be successful in the pros.
Pryor- Came out trying to be a receiver and was always more athlete than QB
Cardale- Was highly inaccurate and often displayed stupidity on social media
Troy Smith- Undersized with weak arm
JT Barrett- Great guy, Weak arm
Haskins- Legit talent, but was clearly not very smart if you paid attention to him in interviews
Alex Smith- Classic overachiever. Good for him. I honestly think Mac Jones/ Alex Smith might not be an awful player comp. The fact that Alex Smith went number 1 and A Rod went in the 20’s in the same draft is nuts, but I don’t think anyone can hate on A Smith’s career.
Burrow- Let’s not blame Urban on that one. Most of the country missed on this kid and it sounds like he possibly had a shot to beat out Haskins before he got injured in camp
Cam Newton- It’s not Urban’s fault that Cam was running around cheating on papers and stealing laptops lol.
Justin Fields- Pros- Great athlete, great arm, good decision maker, loves the game, above average character
Cons- Maybe was a bit of a 1 read QB (even so- that seemed to work out well for him because he was extremely accurate and if your first read is open, there is no reason to go to your second read). The transfer from Georgia- but don’t hate the kid for taking advantage of the rules. Hate the NCAA for having loopholes in place. Also, Georgia did not really fulfill the promises they made to him when they recruited him. Ultimately, the decision resulted in Fields getting to play 2 years for a great program and put a lot of positive things on film, so I can’t hate him for taking advantage of the system that is in place.
Also another note regarding Fields- Didn’t he technically play under Ryan Day? It might not have been the exact same system Urban was running.
I think Fields is going to be really good and him getting pushed down the draft is ultimately going to help him because he will be getting drafted into a better situation than he would if he went 1, 2 or 7 (the Lions)

the QBs that come from that tOSU system dont seem to pan out in the NFL. Troy Smith, Pryor, Jones, Miller, Barrett, Haskins... Makes him a riskier pick in my view.
None of them were as talented as him, a couple of them weren't even thought of as QBs by the NFL. Smith and Pryor weren't in the same system, hell Smith played there when he was Fields was in 1st grade.

Why? He’s a pretty damn smart dude with insane natural physical talents.
It worries me that for a two year starter, or was he three, he still locks in on one receiver and hardly ever looks off him.

Justin Fields will be a bust but not as big of a bust as Trevor Lawrence.

i kinda think Fields the guy the 49ers are gonna take at #3.
if they pick Mac Jones there i'll laugh my fricking arse off.

He also has very keen hearing too. Maybe its tied to epilepsy. Didn't hear things from Georgia fans in stands that prompted his transfer to OSU?

I think someone said something to his sister. He didn’t actually hear it.
