Al Woods was a failure at LSU. 5star out of HS, all that he EVER did for lsu was help our signing-day rankings.

Red-shirt then sat the bench till last year. Then proceeded to do nothing. Now instead of being someone else's problem now he's a Saint. Even that would be fine except we traded up to get him! WTF??

I think we have one pick left.

239 overall in 7th round. This correct?

Could have drafted this with the 130th. Waste of a 6th round pick.

nfl network said the vikings were highly interested in woods.

We should have been laughing at Vikings not trying to trump them. I was hoping we were going for the LB from SouthCarolina

Red-shirt

pretty sure he never redshirted

woods was never coached by a competent DL coach until possibly his final year

also LSU tried to make him into a 1-gap DT when his body screams 2-gap DT

he should play 330-340 and be really strong. instead he's 309 and has mediocre strength and no technique

Didn't they work him out several times before the draft? They must have liked something they saw.

Al Woods did not start until senior year.

Did you see his highlight reel? Its was weak. His highlights from 4 years on the team looked like a real stars single-game

I really like this pick, and not because he went to LSU. Woods could be a good NT in a 3-4, and we do mix a 3-4 scheme into our defense. If he actually has DLine coach now worth a shite, he could be a starter. Good pick. Most psyched about him and the OT Brown.

I generally agree with what you said. However, that's the past. I want to give a positive spin.

Coming out of HS, the dude was neck & neck with Gerald McCoy as The Best DT,and was at one point rated ahead of McCoy ( that is until McCoy went supernova in the Army AA game). Still, Woods is undeniably athletic with great size. Yes, he was a "5-star" bust in college, but he did start and made more plays than we think. There were times I was glad they were taking him out the game, then things would get worse, and I was thankful they were putting him back in the game. Plus, he's a good kid with quality character.

Gregg Williams said the defensive picks would get his OK, and that you would have to have lateral movement to play DT for him. If Gregg Williams approves, I think he can dig out the beast lying inside that 6-4, 310 frame.

bulking up a little, if he can get to 320, in the Saints scheme, we did it last year with a guy at that weight

320 is still small for a 2-gap N

he needs to go back to 330-340. al woods going to LSU was one of the worst decisions he could have made

LSU's problems

1. scheme: he didn't fit
2. development: moffit doesn't make strong/explosive lineman
3. coaching: he wasn't coached technique until his senior year

al woods was a legit 5-star talent. he needed coaching and physical development. he was a raw talent coming from a small school and he needed to drop weight and get stronger. pretty much LSU was the worst choice possible

LSU tried to turn him into a 1-gap DT, made him get way too small, and moffit's track record with developing strength is not strong. plus he was coached by a DL coach who simply did not even really coach
